Reports are coming out that the Big Ten and SEC are supporting a 16 team playoff that would give automatic bids as follows:
4 - Big Ten
4 - SEC
2 - ACC
2 - Big 12
1 - G6 Champion
with the 3 remaining bids being at large.
If this does, in fact, move forward, I'd love to see the 5 Conference Champions to be seeded in the Top 8 and earn home games. This would help give the championship games meaning as they would be fighting for seeding and a guaranteed home game. The loser in the conference championship game could still potentially be part of the top 8 seeds (and receive a home game).
It sounds like that the B1G and SEC would also look at having some additional play-in games with the 3rd best team playing the 6th best team in the conf and the 4th best team playing the 5th best team in the conference. I like this as well as not all schedules are equal so this helps make sure the 4 best teams get in and the loser of that game could possibly still earn an at large birth if the game is close and not a blowout loss.
