NCAA Men's basketball rule change proposals

Like most things, I think it is a process coaches and players have to go through. Trialing it in a tournament gives you a relatively small sample size of looks at how players and coaches respond to the rule change. Shaving 5 seconds taken off the shot clock is over a 14% reduction in possession...

NCAA Men's basketball rule change proposals

What I found to be most interesting, if approved, is that they will trial 6 personal fouls at the NIT next year. It hasn't been approved, of course, but I would be in favor of it. I think reducing the shot clock will only help. Just my opinion. I also think the 5 second closely guarded count...

If the NCAA is fixed, then why

This has never happened to me, nor have I ever heard of it happening to anyone. We have discussed in length some of the challenges involved with being a college basketball official, so I'm not going to rehash them. Bottom line - the NBA model that puts employment, training/philosophy...

    Tarin Smith leaving

It's a good thing Tom Izzo isn't judged by this standard. He's only half as good of a coach as he has made us all believe he is. What a facade! Izzo's teams, in general, struggle somewhat in the first half of many seasons. This year is a prime example. There are plenty of others where his...

NBA disclosing play calling evaluations I'm curious if anyone else saw this. I like the idea, I wish the NCAA would follow suit. In my opinion, it gives the officials a stronger leg to stand on when coaches want to argue calls. This is good for the game. This will be interesting to follow...

Very well could have been a missed call, in which case you are correct. I didn't see the play, and the only thing I saw in the screen shot was the ball being around the rim/backboard. I didn't see you reference where the ball was touched. Did the player hanging on the rim touch the ball? I just...

I hear you. I know some calls were missed throughout the games I watched. I did see a fair amount of things get called or ignored that analysts or fines were griping about that were actually correctly enforced or call, for what it's worth. All fans and most coaches expect the officials to be...

So, the Butler player bear hugged the ND player and then time expired without a call? I can see your point then.

haha! I'm in your head now! j/k You were ready for me, though! I try not to argue judgement calls that people bring up on here for the obvious reason that judgement us up to the individual, the angle they had on the play. All contact is not a foul, and it takes judgment to determine if the...

I don't know how well this will post. If it looks like crap, I apologize. I had to use the bullets and I'm not sure I did it correctly. The thing is, it has to be a legitimate basketball move or play. If the player's sole purpose of grabbing the rim is to mess with the basket and the attempted...

By the way, are you recording every game of the tourney? How did you pull that up so fast?

haha I appreciate it. Solid work on the mobile device. So, as long as the ball hasn't contacted the rim, and the officials deem the pull on the rim to be something of the non-unsportsmanlike variety, there isn't a violation. I know you can't really post a video here, and I'm not saying you're...

Tim, quick question. Can you describe the play for me? I am curious about it but I didn't see it and I'm having trouble with a quick search to find the play. The reason I ask is because if the ball was not on the rim when the rim was pulled down or if the ball did not come into contact with...

Louisville survives, with a little help

Agree on that 100% too. I work games with both the :22 and :24 shot clock, and the game moves SO MUCH FASTER. Guys shoot the ball and get up and down the court. Much prefer it to :35 seconds. I hope the :30 clock gets implemented.

haha! Well at least I've got company!! I wouldn't be surprised if it changed in the next year or two. I know the review rules are going to be changing over the next couple of years. So I can see the continuation plays, considering the challenge to judge the difference between the start of the...

Tim are you talking about the play where TV had a jump ball and the official opposite the table, free throw line extended, came in with a foul call? That's what I was referring to. The dude that loves to troll me was arguing that the official made the call from half court, then I posted pics of...

Reading comprehension is not your strength.I understand. You've done this plenty of times before. Apparently the last time I schooled you with the proof of the location of the official making that foul call in front of TV wasn't enough. The thread got deleted, but you know what happened. I...

Boom, #14 Georgia State beats #3 Baylor

One other thing to add to that UCLA goaltending play: when you consider the tableside Trail official had primary responsibility for goaltending and BI on that shot, and you look at the angle he had, there is no way for him to know 100% how close to the rim the ball was - as in whether it would...

Boom, #14 Georgia State beats #3 Baylor

Agree. Correct call. Tough play. The rule states that until it is clear that the shot will be no good, touching of the ball is goal tending. It appeared that the ball may contact the rim if he had left it be. It's very easy to say that the ball was off target and that it would not have gone in...
