Another Caitlin Clark thread......but different.

Yeah, I know. Another CC thread is as much fun as a rematch with herpes. But there's an elephant in the room that not many are talking about, and that is the heat and downright disrespect CC is getting from mostly blacks. Antonio Brown is the latest in a disappointingly long list of nuts, past players, current players, sports commentator and personalities, who just can't accept that she is (swallowing my gorge) a generation talent who has, yes, broken many records mostly held by black female players.

I'm not going to post an exhaustive list of offenders but you can use your favorite search engine to see what I mean. Also, I'll ask that the thread be deleted if this turns into a nasty racist outlet for the unbalanced. I'm interested in your perspective about a phenomenon that, yes, has a racial aspect to it, but which I suspect may be as much societal as anything. My litmus test on this issue is to reverse it: how would I feel if a minority became the best at a traditionally white sport like tennis-----whoops, already happened, or gymnastics-----dang, that too, how about golf? Gee whiz, that happened also. Now if white personalities started sniping at the minority who excelled, how would that be received by the sports community and sports journalists?

See what I mean? To my mind anything that doesn't elevate and only tears down is just wrong irrespective of whose ox is getting gored.

Thoughts? Again, if this turns into a racist rant I'll ask that it be deleted. Race will inevitably come up but let's look at this specific matter as objectively as possible.

Adrian Martinez Dominates UFL -- Named Top QB in League

Adrian Martinez Dominates UFL, Named Top Quarterback in League Debut Year

June 7, 2024

In a celebratory announcement, Adrian Martinez, a standout former Nebraska quarterback, has been honored with a selection to the All-United Football League’s inaugural team. The league recognized Martinez’s exceptional performance as the All-UFL quarterback on a sunny Wednesday afternoon.

Martinez had an impressive season, demonstrating his dual-threat capabilities. He aired out 1,749 yards, connecting for 15 touchdowns, and was intercepted only three times.

On the ground, Martinez showcased remarkable agility and speed, leading the UFL with 528 rushing yards and adding three more touchdowns. His rushing average of 9.8 yards per carry punctuates his status as a dynamic force on the field.

Before stepping into the UFL, Martinez polished his skills over four seasons with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, spanning 2018 to 2021, and capped off his collegiate career at Kansas State. Throughout his college tenure, he accumulated 9,391 passing yards, delivered 49 touchdowns against 30 interceptions, and rushed for 2,847 yards, finding the end zone an additional 44 times.
Martinez’s prowess will be on full display as he leads the Birmingham Stallions into a decisive clash with the Michigan Panthers for the USFL Conference Championship. The Stallions, boasting a perfect 2-0 record against the Panthers this season, aim to extend their dominance when they meet this Saturday.

Fans are gearing up for the showdown, set to kick off at 3:00 p.m. CT, with live coverage on ABC.

The official Twitter account of Martinez’s team celebrated his achievement with a post, exuberantly declaring, “Adrian Martinez is your 2024 All-UFL QB @MartinezTheQB | #GIDDYUP ,” complemented by an image of a triumphant Martinez.

This accolade not only highlights Martinez’s remarkable year but also marks a significant milestone in his professional career, affirming his status as a leading quarterback in the United Football League.

OT: Scottie Scheffler just got Barney Fyfe’d.

Other golfers in front of him had made the same move as directed by cops on the scene and ole Barney Fyfe Gillis decided to try to stop his car by grabbing on the door and beating on his window with a flashlight. 🙄. I swear. I’m a big proponent of cops but damn. Somebody lost their cool and should have gotten a trip downtown but it wasn’t Scheffler.

'Colorado's History Against Nebraska'-Article

Looking back at Colorado’s history against rival Nebraska

You can understand why Colorado football fans are basking in the fact that the Nebraska Cornhuskers haven’t beaten the Buffs in nearly 5,000 days.

Historically, the rival Cornhuskers have had CU’s number more often than not, leading the series with an all-time record of 49-21-2. From 1962 to 2000, Colorado beat Nebraska only four times in 39 total meetings.

Since then, the series has been very close, with Colorado winning 7 of the last 13 games, including a current three-game winning streak dating back to 2018. If Colorado can beat Nebraska at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 7, the Buffs will set a new record for their longest winning streak in the series. And with no future matchups currently scheduled, they can keep the Big Red stewing in frustration for even longer.
