From what I read, Scott Frost is criticized for his loyalty to Adrian Martinez as NU's signal caller. While it's clear AM is not the difference maker it takes to skyrocket in the polls, perhaps the coaching staff knows he gives Nebraska the best chance of success despite his flaws. Frost twice benched Martinez last year for Luke McCaffrey, but that didn't pan out, did it? McCaffrey moved on (twice) from the program and he hasn't been able to win the starting job at Rice. Rice! A side note about Luke - he would have been a major contributor to this offense if he just accepted he's not a college QB. Maybe Noah Vedral should have gotten the ball two years ago, but the fact remains AM was coming off a stellar freshman season and pundits in Nebraska and beyond hailed him as the guy to turn the program around. The long and short of it it's more likely the NU coaching staff knows what it has and doesn't have than folks named NU thoughts. I don't think Frost would hesitate handing the offense to Logan Smothers if he thought it gave NU a better chance of winning.
