Going back to the BCS era, I've been a proponent of a 12-team playoff. Here is this year's tournament: Week 1 byes - Alabama (1 seed), Michigan (2), Georgia (3), Cincinnati (4). Saturday games - Pitt (12) at Notre Dame (5), Utah (11) at Ohio State (6), Michigan State (10) at Baylor (7), Oklahoma State (9) at Ole Miss (8). Losers advance to a bowl game, winners advance in tourney. Next week, lowest remaining seed at Alabama, next lowest at Michigan and so on. Losers done for the season, winners advance to designated bowl game semifinals. For the sake of argument, first-round winners are Notre Dame, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Utah. Second round games - Utah @ Alabama, Notre Dame @ Cincinnati, Baylor @ Georgia, Oklahoma State @ Michigan. The only glitch is if a top 4 seed loses they only get 1 post-season game while everyone else gets at least 2.
