To me, the new HC needs to be a defensive guy (not Bo Pelini). It just seems to be that the best teams are the ones lead by defensive guys in this generation, mainly because the game has moved so far in the offensive direction. Honestly, a good defensive mind could have solved Georgia Southern's passing game after the first series or two with the same players we have now, instead of essentially staying with the same thing for the whole 45 point blitzkrieg. Maybe bump #2 on the line????
We have really only played decent defense for about 1 and 1/2 seasons since 2010. That would be 2015 and 1/2 of 2016. We have only played great defense since Charlie McBride in 2009 and 2010 (23 years).
A great defensive coach can hire a great OC to run that side of the ball. But the mentality should be defense first.
