Here is my case for keeping Riley:

1. Coaching staff continuity is needed to recruit to a place like Nebraska and it takes time by definition. Switching both offensive and defensive schemes takes time to get talent and develop talent in new systems. When he first took the job, he had a few weeks to get a staff that would help close a recruiting class within a few months.
2. He's fired friends/colleagues he's worked with for years to try and improve "long term" plan. He's not stubborn when it comes to trying to improve.
3. He's replaced those coaches with Parrella, D Williams, and Booker. All should be an improvement in terms of recruiting. Diaco was the national DC/Asst Coach of the year, also something Banker wasn't.
4. Riley is a great face of the program and understands the Nebraska tradition and fans like him.
5. He's used his connections to bring in great help in recruiting and personnel Mgt.
6. He's been here 2.25 years and recruiting only improving.
7. We are basically the youngest team in the Big 10 when you look at production from Junior/Senior classes.
8. His First 2 recruiting classes are primarily true Freshman and RS Freshman or Sophomores.
9. He has strengthened the QB position talent/depth (you'll see). He will do the same at every position. He's had a few guys move in that won't play here.
10. Kids want to play early and we're able to accommodate that, so the future looks great for 2018 class as well. Even with our rough start, kids like Nebraska. We had 6 guys out on defense last weekend and we plugged and played. The offense has struggled, but they are replacing almost 100% of skill talent from last year. RB, QB, WRs, and all TEs. The Oline still young (no seniors playing right now and Knevel only one in two deep). It will get better. He'll continue to address coaching failures.
11. He has a lot of connections (Keyshawn, Devaney, Spielman, etc. that were made over 40 years in being a good person). He's is recruiting the South and Texas again, not just California, which he had to lean on initially.
12. He wants to win. He wants to win at Nebraska. As you see him continue to recruit well in 2018-2019, you'll see he is recruiting difference makers.

Recruiting is the ultimate trend of a program. The Playoff teams prove that. The more 4-5 star guys you get the more NFL players you get. The better talent you have the easier it is to get better talent. Talent eventually leads to winning when you have experience with that talent. Way too early to judge him. 2017 should be off the table if he is still recruiting well. November 2018 is when you make a determination of development. I just don't see a staff coming in with the ability to out recruit the current staff.

Just my opinion.
