I do not believe that every coach on staff should be a former Husker, but I do feel that having a few guys on staff who played during our "glory years" would be a good thing. Besides being a connection to the past and an individual who can lead by example, having a "Nebraska Guy" on staff eases public relations concerns. So while a Husker connection should not be the only criteria during a coaching search, it should be one of many to weigh during the hiring process.

A quick review of the Top 10 teams' (AP Poll) coaching staffs uncovered that 9/10 teams have at least one coach who played at the university. We do not have any full-time coach who played for Nebraska.

1) Alabama
2) Clemson
3) Stanford
4) Ohio State
5) Oklahoma
6) Michigan State
7) TCU
8) Houston
9) Iowa
10) Ole Miss

Before any mouth-breathers attack me, again, I'm not saying that every coach on staff should be a former Husker, just that it is one criteria out of many that should be considered. Obviously, hiring the best recruiter and best developer/teacher should be our main focus.
