Nebraska (13-11, 1-2) travels to Omaha to take on Creighton (12-6, 0-0) on Tuesday night at 6:30. NU is 9-1 this season when coming off of a lost, but they’ll need to rev up the offense starting tonight. In the last nine games, the Huskers in five losses have scored a combined ten runs. On the other side, they’ve scored 40 runs in four wins. While the major question of this team has been pitching, the offense is what needs to get in gear and strike first. Nebraska is 10-2 this season when they score first and 3-8 when they don’t.

The major setback for this offense this season isn’t just replacing guys like Ben Miller or Jake Meyers. Angelo Altavilla hasn’t had the type of year that anyone expected him to have this season. Last season, Altavilla was second on the team in batting average (.316) and this season he’s last among starters (.222). It doesn’t stop with Altavilla, it seems that Mojo Hagge has lost his touch over the course of the second half of last season and the start to this season. Hagge is down to (.244) this season while being at (.277) last season. What makes this a big deal? These guys were the main 1-2 combination last year and now it seems they can’t find a specific spot in the batting order to hold down. They’ll need to figure out if this team wants to slug with the Big Ten’s best.

The game will be available for viewing on gocreighton.com/watch and can be heard on 1400 KLIN or TuneIn App.

Probable Pitching Matchup:

Nebraska- Nate Fisher (Jr. LHP) (1-3, 5.24 ERA, 35 IP, 15 K)

Creighton- Preston Church (Sr. LHP) (1-2, 12.19 ERA, 16 IP, 13K)

2018: The Bluejays are off to a hot-start in the 2018 season. They are 12-6 and they are 15th in the RPI. They return seven starters from last year’s team including junior outfielder Clark Brinkman who is second in the Big East in batting average (.410) and junior catcher Michael Emodi who leads the nation in RBIs per game (1.67). Emodi is off to a stellar season as he has smashed seven homeruns in the last 10 games and is third in the Big East in batting average (.360). Creighton has played some of the same opponents as the Huskers this season. They split a series with Wichita State and took two out of three against Minnesota earlier this month.

Strength: Multi-base hits. This Creighton team knows how to hit with the best of them. They are 10th in the country in doubles per game (2.5) and have a 62 multi-base hits as a team this season. The Bluejays have an aggressive mindset that doesn’t hold back. They are 35-of-42 on stolen base attempts this season and are actively looking to catch their opponent off guard.

Weakness: Tonight’s starting pitcher. Church played for Western Illinois for four years before transferring to Creighton. In 51 appearances, he posted a 6-16 record with a 4.76 ERA and recorded 173 strikeouts in 193 combined innings. While he does have the experience, he doesn’t have the type of output that should put a scare in the Husker batters.
