A man jailed on burglaries charges has also been accused of stealing a Christmas tree from a Metairie home in the middle of the night.
Daniel Mitchell, 19, of 2700 Ridgefield Drive, Metairie, was booked Nov. 23 with simple burglary and illegal possession of stolen property, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.
The Grinch-like theft occurred during the early morning hours of Nov. 16 in the 6900 block of Rosebank Drive in Metairie, authorities said. A woman told deputies she was fast asleep when she overheard her front door slam shut, the report said.
The woman's sister, who was also roused by the noise, went to check on the sound and spotted three men carrying their artificial Christmas tree across and down the street, the report said.
It's not clear how authorities identified Mitchell as a suspect in the case. But the theft is one of several burglaries that he's been accused of.
Investigators with the Sheriff's Office and the Kenner Police Department took Mitchell and his mother, Stacie Mitchell, 47, into custody at their Metairie home Nov. 21 in connection with burglaries in Kenner and East Jefferson.
Mitchell suffered minor injuries when deputies tried to take him into custody as he hid in the attic of his home, Sheriff's Office officials said. He is accused of wrestling with officers and injuring one deputy, who was treated at a local hospital.
