The Husker wrestling team came from behind to defeat Rutgers. Rutgers won the first 3 matches (165#, 174# & 184#) to go up 9-0. Eric Schultz won a close decision and Patrick Grayson in his second career start won by major decision. The score was then 9-7. The Huskers lost by a major decision at 125# which was a moral victory since he was wrestling one of the top wrestlers in the country.
The score was 13-7 going into the 133# class. True frosh Jason Renteria in his 3rd career start was going up against a senior ranked #17. He won a wild match 14-11. Then Red, McCrystal and Berger finished it off with 3 decisions for a 19-13 win. Berger again made it dramatic by losing a 4-2 lead in the 3rd period and sending the match into sudden victory. He won with a take down in SV.
In December and early January people were speculating why Renteria had not wrestled any matches either as a Husker or unattached. Whatever the reason he has looked good in his first 3 matches. That is 2 victories over ranked opponents this weekend
