I just spoke with Thousand (Oaks Calif.) Thousand Oaks High Coach Mike Leibin about Oregon State receiver transfer Richard Mullaney and below is what he shared:
"Yeah, I've been talking to him quite a bit. He didn't get his release until Friday right when he graduated and I believe he's on a recruiting trip right now."
Coach Mike Leibin would neither confirm nor deny that Alabama was the school Mullaney was visiting, but it's a good bet that's where he is.
"Obviously, any major program like Alabama is enticing, but I also know that he has certain goals that he's reaching for so he's just trying to find the best fit for himself."
I asked Coach Leibin if the Huskers were in the picture at all with Mullaney at this point and what his relationship was like with Coach Mike Riley and his staff when he was at Oregon State.
"To my knowledge he has not had any contact with a Nebraska coach at this time and this is not hiding anything, that's the truth.
"It's my understanding that he had a great relationship with that staff. He was a great kid and a hardworking kid."
Coach Leibin then elaborated on Mullaney's reason for transferring to a new program.
"He kind of blew up his sophomore year when he had 67 catches, but last year he got derailed with a broken elbow. So he graduated and he has a conditional release where he can go nowhere in the Pac-12 or to anyone who is on Oregon State's schedule."
Coach Mike Leibin said that he will let us know if Nebraska it does become a player for Mullaney.
