I had listened to him a little bit but never for that long before. The guy really impressed me with the way he answered the questions and talked football. I think I could listen to him talk defense all day long. (Even though we all know its probably too technical for us). No arrogance. No BS. No "you never played the game" crap. Just humble honest answers about their scheme and players. Loved it. Reminded me of Charlie. When a guy knows what he's talking about and confident in his abilities and knowledge, he doesn't have to belittle the media and fans to compensate for his insecurities. At every turn this staff is impressing me with their professionalism and attitudes.

Well yes I can imagine that the Buckeye fan base would connect with a guy that suffers from multiple personality disorders as the result of multiple concussive events suffered in boxing and football. He did learn his etiquette from Woody after all. The good news is that you can check him out just down the road from Columbus. That should be entertaining. I can't wait until the first Sports Center tape of him attacking a player or official in Youngstown.:)

cliff notes are: "..you know, ... you know, ... you know, ... you know, ... you know, ... you know, ... "

He seems like a good guy, but I didn't get much out of the presser once i noticed his favorite phrase kept repeating.

So you worried about him saying "you know" so you missed some of his discussion of how they play their DBs? Okidokie then. I was so intent on listening to the little football nuggets that I didn't even notice the "you knows" and they usually bug the hell out of me too.:)

well, you know, it's kind of like when it just hits you, then once that happens, you know, you start like losing your focus on what is being said, and then, you know when it hits you that maybe you should start counting them, but then you realize you would have to start from the beginning, so yeah, i lost complete focus lol..

I'll cut him some slack since it was Q&A and not a prepared speech. Its just so refreshing to see a guy answer questions without all the pretense and talk to people with respect. I listened to some of Harbaugh's pressor yesterday. WOW. That is a strange dude.

yeah, i'm not trying to gig the guy, just having a little fun..

harbaugh is weird

Still better than, "That's a good football team...they're a good football team...yeah, that's a good football team"

Or

"It's all part of the process...it is a process...well, it's a long process"

yep, or "at the end of the day..." man i got tired of hearing that

I'm sure our new coaches will have catch phrases that we might get tired of, but at least I can't envision the kind of animosity, paranoia and arrogance that we saw out of some of the old staff.

But, but, but....he didn't tell us if it "looked like football"

I liked his discussion of DBs should never play straight up, they should always be edging in or out.

I'm not very good at public speaking, so I'm really forgiving of any idiosyncrasies people have when talking. Edit: I'm not very good at typing either, had to fix something.

Not looking to get into fight, but there's something that comes off as negative whenever I listen to him talk. I did like when he was talking about CB coverage, his coaching side "turns on" and that part I enjoyed listening to.

I agree. He did have some nuggets, but you are right. To me he does sound a big negative when he talks.

Coach Riley really loves "it looks like football" or "its starting to look like football." I've heard that phrase in 4 or 5 interviews. It may (and probably will) get tired if we keep hearing it. But "looks like football" doesn't carry the off-putting, excuse-making undertones of "the process."

Which Charlie? 1980's Charlie was rarely heard from for good reason. When Osborne told him to change it up after 1991, he became miracle worker Charlie.

As far as the "you knows" not everyone is a great public speaker. Our AD says the same thing...all the time! In the end, however, I am more concerned about the content of what they have to say. (Now pastors who say "you know" drive me a bit batty. You speak to groups of people multiple times every week...get rid of the "you knows" and the "ummmmmsss.")

Oh, but it's never going to be over. Ya see, Bo had been here long enough for his overused idioms to stick like flypaper. Now half the state uses that f**king saying, and it drives me nuts! Like hearing it 45 times each of his press conferences wasn't enough, now I get to hear it from every dimwitted knuckle-dragger in the state.

I don't get the "negative" at all. Granted he's not gonna be a TV infomercial salesman, but I think he comes off as genuine and his comments about individual players seem pretty positive. You want negative go listen to Spurrier. I just think he comes across as just matter of fact, this is the way we see it and here's why. Its a nice kind of boring for me. I DON"T want all the drama we've had for the last dozen years or so.

I thought Banker was fine, huge upgrade over his predecessor. At least Banker does`t need a hand up his back to speak.

You lost me at you know. Cool

Agreed. It is definitely a me thing, just when I hear him talk it sounds to me like it is negative. He gives pretty good info. It might just be because Mike Riley is so gentle when he talks that it is a contrast. Not dogging the guy, just replying to the poster who stated that.
