Do the middle class and lower income people understand that they will be hurt the worst if the police are disbanded or get serious budget cuts? The wealth people will have gated communities their own private security and if something happens in their neighborhood the police or whoever replaced them will go to the wealthy neighborhoods but won’t go into to others. People really need to think this out before doing irreversible damage

Place was a mess a year ago. I was in a group of 5 males downtown a mile from the convention center and was told by our waitress that walking back the mile at 10 PM was not a wise decision. This was after a random guy off the street interrupted our dinner, was told to leave by the waitress, and then sat at a nearby booth loudly calling her the magic C word until the police were called.
All I wanted was (1) piece of your pizza and a kiss from that waitress C%&*.

Yes but you are forgetting that all our taxes will go down about 10% since we aren't paying for a police staff. And I have a very nice bridge in Brooklyn for sale too.

What Camden did is not what the Black Visions organizers are demanding in Minneapolis.

"This is the beginning of the process of putting together a “police-free future,” they vowed, by investing in more community initiatives like mental health and having community members respond to public safety issues."
Well if thats the case good luck with that nonsense

Some of you here are brainwashed by the Republicans in your state. Read about bob Kroll, a confirmed white supremacist leading a police union.

Read about the Minneapolis police department. They let prostitutes touch their you know what in undercover stings. minneapolis has paid 5 mil in lawsuit since 2008. The police don't listen to any of their police chiefs or commands. Don't let yourself be drugged by Republicans before knowing factz.

Excuse me but Minnesota is controlled by Democrats. Clean up your own mess and don’t tell me I’m brainwashed.

I don’t think people in this thread are saying no changes need to be made. The question on the table is how far do you go? Disbanding the police is a pretty big step. I know the problems in Minneapolis are sizable. But is disbanding the right answer? Guess we’ll find out...

Just stop it...nobody is brainwashed, and if what you say about the white supremist is true then he's is a grade A dork who needs to go, yesterday. Fact is, getting rid of the police is a horrible idea, period. If your justification for doing that is some dork who should be removed from his job in another state that is the lamest excuse ever.

completely getting rid of law enforcement in Minneapolis is about as likely as building a southern border wall and having Mexico pay for it - but I understand why people who believed the latter as being even a remote possibility would also believe the former

You don’t have to convince me, convince the nine people with all the power in the Minneapolis area

It's true. It was reported the silent guys which is like 22 people on Minneapolis police department are threatened by the 422 police officers in Minneapolis police department who vote for a white supremacist in bob Kroll to lead their department

Minnesota / Minneapolis banned what the officer who killed George floyd, but kroll went behind the police chief & told officers to do what they want and train them

The whole police department in Minneapolis came out this weekend listen to their association leader over their boss.

So all of you can say whatever about defunding, but the Minneapolis police department is unfixable.

A white police chief tried Fixing the department, but after 1 month, left the state & became police chief there because bob Kroll has so much control with those other officers

Wow. There are crazy, paranoid people. As someone who lives in outstate Minnesota I find this thread amusing.

People are going to sell their cabins because they disbanded the Minneapolis police. Have any of ever been to Minnesota?

I go to one or two concerts a year in Minneapolis. I have felt just as safe as omaha or lincoln.

The funny thing is that people in rural Nebraska make the same comments about the big city folks in lincoln and omaha.

So, yeah. I'll be at the 2021 season opener. It will be my boys first husker game in person.

I like pie. And think jointed shad raps are fantastic crankbaits. Fire tiger and silver shad.

Exactly, I feel bad for the business owners in Minneapolis and the state for that matter. I am a huge KC Royals fan and wanted to catch a game up there in the near future. Now, I don't care if I ever step foot in that state again.

Weak liberal leadership will be their undoing, let them reap what they sow.
No doubt the Target center etc will snatch up some of the defunded police and hire them as private security. What you would have to see is armed security at every business in the city and it would have to be around the clock.

They are literally f'n nuts. The people's republic of Minnesota is finally showing it's true colors. After about the first week of that there will be multiple shootings involving people trying to defend their property.

You mean like Las Vegas where I didn't see a cop my entire last visit and less crime then I typically see at a husker home game? The casinos take care of problems. I'm not saying it will be done in Minneapolis but it's not unheard of.

Every time I'm back it seems like omaha is more of a shitshow with its crime. My dad has to take extra measures to secure his doors when he's out of town. He lives in south lincoln. I don't have that problem here in communist minnesota.

Just because you didn't see a cop doesn't mean they weren't there. They were. Vegas employs a large number of plain clothes cops. On top of that I guarantee you that every step you took on the strip you were being watched by somebody whether it was security in a casino or a cop sitting in a media room watching cameras of the action on the streets. Why would you put a cop in a cruiser who can only cover his location when you can have a guy sitting in a room watching multiple spots?

Every city has a crime problem. IF you leave town you had better have a good security system no matter what city you live in or really good neighbors to watch things for you. The problem for Minneapolis will be who's going to answer the alarm or 911 call if you neighbors call it in. Rural residences are really at risk around cities. The desperation of meth addicts is amazing..

I don't have a security system or anyone watching my house when I'm gone. Which is strange considering I live in this crazy liberal state.

Maybe things just aren't that great in your conservative state?

Are people actually thinking that a city with a population over 500,000 isn't going to have a law enforcement presence? Think outside the box a little. Just because it's not the "Minneapolis Police Department" doesnt mean you can't have law enforcement.

this is how politics/negotiations work

one side makes an outrageous claim/proposal

the most radical in their base have an orgasm
the zealots on the opposite side lose their minds

and the reality lands no where near either extreme

"Police free society" is a term being used by MN officials...their words.
Ok. Feel free to get back to me on the opener 2021 if their isn't a single law enforcement officer in the entire city of Minneapolis. I'll be there cheering on the huskers with my family so if I don't make it back cheer extra loud for me during the 2021 season.
