6 seconds left. I tell my defense to tackle every eligible receiver on a pass.

Yep...this was the right call. Clemson would have had the ball at the one with one play left. They probably are forced to kick it. It was the best Bama could have hoped for.

I disagree. Clemson had obviously decided with 6 seconds to go that they were going to win or lose the game in regulation. Had they been outside the 5 yard line or something, probably they kick the field goal, but from the 2, it was win or lose. Tackle the receivers and Watson may just run the ball in. Even if you stop him, the ball goes to the 1 yard line, and they run another play. Maybe works for the one play, but then you are right back there again, only this time they are only 1 yard from the endzone. Do it again and it goes to the half yard line and they run another play. Unlike basketball, the defense can't run the clock out with that tactic, since game can't end on a defensive penalty. Plus, if the DB misses the tackle, receiver is wide open. Its not like the receivers are going to stand there and let them tackle. And Watson wasn't under pressure, and he is good enough to extend the play if need be until his receivers gets up. Its a free play, so he can take any chance he wants to get it in the endzone at that point.

You what is ironic or moronic is that IF Bama stops them, it's a some incredible dynasty but because they didn't now Dabo is a genius. One play. TO going for 2. And IMO, the one DB from Bama tried to screw up the play for them by knocking his guy down. You would think that when they saw that formation they would have had a better game plan. Fire the DC.

Agree with the OP to an extent. I don't know about tackling all receivers from the get go, but by golly they should have been instructed to impede those receivers at all costs, up to and including tackling them if need be.

I think they were trying to. If you'll notice the DB was the one who initiated contact with the receiver and pulled him down. They just got outplayed.

That was a perfectly execute pick play by Clemson. Bama should have been in a zone rather than man coverage. I really think that Clemson had planned on throwing one to the end zone and if incomplete, they would have taken it to OT. Definitely would have been discussed during the time out.

If they go zone then Clemson audibles to double slants and scores anyway.
