Where will NU end up at the end with the Rivals Team Ranking?

While some put little faith in these rankings AND by all accounts sometimes coaches, fans and teams put more faith in them than they should, statistically, they matter.

In the last 2 years the following numbers were associated with the rankings

20- 1863, 1854
25- 1727, 1750
30- 1682, 1668
35- 1584, 1594

NU is currently at #51 with 1249 points with 14 kids
The average recruit star ranking is a VERY respectable 3.36

Only the highest 20 recruits on each team count
Based on the formula- NU conservatively should end up with about 1744 points
That assumes just 1 mid range 4 star, 1 high 3 star, 3 mid 3 stars and 1 low 3 star

Based on where other teams are now who already have their 23+ etc- that would put NU at about 25th
Lots of the high 4 and 5 star kids are going to sign with teams already ahead of NU

Very respectable- when coming off a 4 win season and a coaching staff having to pull double duty

Looks like mid to high 20's which would be good baseline for the first class. Biggest issue is getting the athletes who want the path to success that Frost and staff are laying out. Success breeds success, it will come, need a top 20 mindset of players that sign.

That is another subject altogether
It seems as if SF and his staff does have a short but reasonable track record of being able to identify talent
Coach them up
Put them into a position to succeed

My point was, given his situation 25 would seem like a pretty good place to start
Next year after showing some progress and having a full year to recruit- see the rankings go up by 6-8 spots to the 19-17 area- (about the average bump Callahan, Pelini and Riley got in year 2) which would easily peg us as the most talented team in the West and probably 4th in the conference

He will coach them up I believe. The rankings are nothing more than cheerleading. Nebraska is no longer interested in "winning the offseason".
Saturdays matter again. The guys that may come in do not make a shred of difference until their feet are in the fire.

Although the 'stars don't matter' approach has some merit.....when the Huskers were in the true MNC hunt under Osborne - they had what would be a 4 or 5 star QB under center (Gill, Frazier, Frost). I guess Crouch would be 4 star as well (getting to a MNC game vs. Miami - but that was not a true MNC caliber team).

I think to even win the Big 10 vs tOSU, PedoU, etc. we'll need a stud QB - and probably a few real studs in skill positions.

On the whole - can a team full of 3 stars play with the SEC....see UCF vs. Auburn game.

Frost obviously knows he has to recruit at a higher level at Nebraska. They mentioned how they knew they weren't going to get Adrian Martinez to UCF, but took a shot at him and were able to land him at Nebraska. I don't think Frost is just going to take the approach of that they'll just coach kids up. I think Frost will want talented players that fit his system and coach them up. I think the biggest difference we'll see with the new regime, is that I think they can recognize players that fit into what they are trying to do offensively and defensively.

With Newell, Lee and Gates blasting out- Im expecting the class to be in the 24 range now. Im thinking NU takes a reach on either Bryant or Sarbaugh- assuming just one of our RB or RB/Rec hybrids on the board commits- Henry or Washington

Newell is gone too?

I can't wait to get back to the days of recruiting like it was in the late 60's when we had a top 10 class for 5 years in a row and used it to win the 70 and 71 national championships!

Those were the days. Frost can get us back there. Hopefully it doesn't take as many years to get those top 10 classes as it did Devaney (like 5 years). Frost's transition class is much better than Devaney's was since Devaney didn't have any 4 or 5 star players sign that were from California or Florida.

In 1998 when Solich took over, he commented that Devaney didn't have any top 10 classes when he won the national championships, but we all knew he was wrong.

Not sure I agree with that
While devaney had good recruiting classes
He didn't have 5 in a row top 10
He did have an advantage back then
He was color blind and a good number of schools including bama were yet to recruit black players in any number if not at all

Lol. 1 fishy reeled in so far. This board is awesome when the "experts" chime in.

That puts us below last year!

Frost better not be a "better recruiter than his predecessor" the same way Riley was...

He had better finish with at least 1864 points.

The deal is this:
Frost started out with recruiting for a team that won FOUR games last year and 2 losing seasons in the last 3- lots of blowouts
Last year Riley was recruiting from a position of 9 wins and 9-10 wins the previous 7 years- minus his one losing season.
Frost didnt start recruiting for NU until late December- in half time capacity

I expect a nice bump next year and am very pleased at where they are now given the circumstances

My OP was my conservative estimate- Im no unrealistic sunshine pumper like many on anything I say or do. I wouldnt be surprised at all if we end up with mid 1800s and 20-21.

There is a very good chance we got both Goodrich and Jones- both 4 star DBs. The following year I wouldnt at all be surprised to see 12 4 stars and 12 3 stars and a top 12-15 class

Yes- official
well that hurts depth. Senior kid who has played some might have been nice to have around this cycle. I'm not sure we'll be able to replace him with comparable game ready talent this late in the cycle.

He played in 3 games and had 2 tackles this year. Drew Brown had more tackles than he did. I think we will manage to survive without him.

So there is no chance we could have used him this year if we have injuries at that position? Mmmm okay. IF we can find a true freshman contributor late this cycle to use his scholarship fine, but otherwise a guy like Newell is a good asset to have in your back pocket whether he's on the 2 deep or not. No doubt we'll survive. I'm not crying in my cereal this morning over it. Did he transfer or just quit?

New coaches and different system. Who knows how he would have looked.

He’s transferring. I read on here he’s looking at K state

I think he is trying to transfer to KSU, being from Kansas and all, he is going home.

Depth is always good. Hopefully Frost uses that scholarship towards someone that can kick some butt, even if it is at another position.

I have faith in Mick, Davis, Davis, and Daniels to hold the position down in the middle. We have decent depth, so I honestly feel that Newell's loss will not hurt very much.

The future needs to be like this though... Lightening the load of upper classmen that are not playing.

Tough given the pool of available guys who haven't already made up their minds. Next year's class will be much more representative of SFs recruiting ability.

3-5 year rebuild.

Have you even looked at the unsigned guys? There’s tons of available quality left.

The proof is typically in the pudding with guys avoiding a new regime change. Did not want to go through the next trial by fire. Best to wish happy blessings and merry parting-of-the-ways to all who move on and be pleased as punch the schollys are opening up. GBR

So in other words the winningest coach in KSU history and the dean of Big 12 football coaches wants him but we're not supposed to? Winking

Nothing’s official so we’ll have to see if they want him

That's all fine but it's ridiculous to applaud him leaving. I agree that I like the guys ahead of him but 2 injuries at that position and you get thin on depth fast. Hope it works out for him.
