Watching Iowa this year has been difficult to stomach, they have a chance at both a Big10 title and national title whoch even if they do no win they are having a great season where they have been in the discussion.

All this with 30% of their defense made up of NE kids who we did not deem good enough to offer - This is bad, very bad

So when is our turn for a great season - heck I am not even asking for a National title just a season where we are actually relevant on the national scene. Our fans fill the stadium every week, we pour money into recruiting at a level very few teams do, we have great facilities and none of that matters.

During the last ten years we see Baylor, Iowa, TCU, Utah , Michigan state all have great years yet nothing for us.

I just hope one day we break out of the dark ages in Nu athletics

As soon as we dodge OSU, MSU, MU, PSU, and let Riley get some of his guys in here, it will be our turn. Actually, I don't think we'll need to dodge all those teams, but it can't hurt!!

Should have been a couple times. NU's schedule has been pretty easy lately and they haven't gotten it done.

What I'm starting to wonder about Iowa is if their style of play covered up the fact that they actually should have been even worse the last few years.

College football is such that it's not just anyone's "turn," but the opportunity is there to have a big season when a team is good enough to do so. I actually thought Pelini was a good coach, but the coaching through fear failed his team in big moments. There will be a transition with Riley (duh) but with even a smidgen of luck this year you all are 8-3 or even 9-2. Of course, some of the bad luck has been self-inflicted, but you get my point. Nebraska is in as good or better position than any of the other teams in the B1G West to have a special season next year or any year going forward.

The facilities, money, stadium, etc all matter. But for teams in the Upper Midwest, the margin for error is very, very slim when compared to the power teams in the South or West. That's just the way it is. No amount of money, facilities, stadium improvements, etc. will change that. I wouldn't be shocked to see Nebraska in the B1G title game next year, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Iowa or Wisconsin there either.

Possibly. It's not as if Iowa's record has been glowing the last few years. 4-8 in 2012 (bad), 8-5 in 2013 (decent), 7-6 in 2014 (mediocre). Style of play didn't have much to do with it.

Weren't they just decimated at key positions a couple times in there though? I feel like I remember them being down to their #4 or 5 RB.

Iowa doesn`t make mistakes, they have very good OL play and they run the ball. We only do 1 of the 3 and we aren`t all that good at it.

Hard to put a price tag on that. Barring major fumbling issues, just keeping the ball out of the air can do an awful lot to help your +/- situation. One thing you know to expect when you play Iowa is plenty of that Ace Big formation.

Yes 2012 was certainly a decimation at RB. But overall that was just a bad Iowa team. First year of Greg Davis as offensive coordinator, with a statuesque QB, very little speed at WR and had to turn to the fullback (Weisman) at RB until he got hurt.

You should just slit your wrists, and your pain will be all over soon.

Lossing to NW, Illinios and Purdue isnt going to happen very often, we all have to be real about those games, we made mistakes and we did hurt ourselfs but Gosh darn it, we been majorly hurt at very important positions for everyone of these games, most of the time we had a true freshman LB playing along with 2nd and 3rd string WALK ON LBs who haven't played a snap till this year, being at a true freshman level as well. It is what it is, but lets be honest, we didn't go into those games with are best lined up and it showed. I guarantee if Armstrong plays in that Purdue game, we beat them by 10 or more.

Dr. Tom said you don't take turns in football.
and he said that before draconian title x / scholarship limits.

I don't think we have had a coach with an eye for instate talent since, nor the wisdom to develop it.

3 players from the 95 pipeline grew up within 50 miles of Lincoln.

I missed our games against OSU, Mich, and PS this year. Wish we would have played PSU instead of Northwestern. They are have been just as middling as NW during most of their time in the B1G

You should probably worry about dodging Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois, and Purdue.

And since Iowa has the same number of wins against us as Illinois and Purdue since joining the B1G, perhaps you should probably try to dodge us too.

Iowa plays solid football no doubt, but they had one of the weakest schedules of the west. Nebraska is a very deceptive 5-6 team. There has been so many mental issues on this team it is unreal. As the last 2 games have showed they are starting to work through those now. So judging this team now as the same team that was 3 weeks ago is unfair.
The last line I saw was Iowa -1. Now if a team that is ranked #3 in the country is that much more superior than a 5-6 team that spread realistically should be around -10 or -14. Mich St was a -4. Im sorry but those Vegas guys know a TON more than any of us here and if they think Iowa is only a 1 point fav I will take their word for it. We have a very very very, good shot at winning this game and if Tommy can limit his mistakes we could see a double digit win.

It will be our turn when we step on opponents throats and don't blow a lead in a conference championship game (vs OU in 2010).

It will be our turn when we don't let the third best team in the other division beat us 70 - 31 running the same damn play in a conference championship game (vs Wisconsin in 2012)

GBR!

I don't think anyone is disputing that Nebraska has a good shot of winning. The relative talent levels of each team are not that far apart either way. Iowa did have beneficial crossovers in Indiana and Maryland. Nebraska had Michigan State and Rutgers. The difference in conference record between Iowa and Nebraska isn't that Iowa's conference schedule was easier. Against common conference opponents Iowa is 5-0 and Nebraska is 1-4.

Should be a good game Friday.
