I assume portal is better than a high school recruit right?

Do you recruit the best athlete you can and tweak the offense to fit them or do you get the best QB you can and keep trying to do whatever we're doing?

How many years of eligiblity do they need to have?

What do you recruit out of high school?

We already have are high schooler. You hit the portal of course . Rhule straight up boned the call for Sims but I bet he'll find someone competent and continue to develop HH . We're a QB away from being a solid team.

Let the new OC decide
FWIW, in the postgame presser Rhule said that last first and goal play was a called handoff and not an RPO. Either Purdy pulled the ball because he thought the play was getting stuffed or he got the call wrong. The third down INT he says was just a good play by the defender. I didn’t like that play design.

I think first...you look at the portal.

Pretty much ever QB that thinks they are not getting "what they want" will be on the market.

That 3rd down play was a good play by the D.

When you assume they are playing D you assume no one is pulling off their man.

It was either

Not man, which is super weird inside the 10 yard line but does happen

Or...dude just made a play. It is weird to run that out route with another WR in the area...unless that other WR is running a dig.

I hate running endzone routes that put that many defenders in such a small area. You have to be precise and hope what happened doesn’t happen. I’m sure Purdy wanted that one back after it left his hand.

I’d try to find 2 portal transfers (a tall ask), one with 3-4 years of eligibility remaining (Keinholz maybe) and one with 1 year of eligibility. I’d also like to see us go after an additional freshman QB.

No QB currently on the roster should be higher than 3rd string next year.

We’re all saying it without saying it
Nebraska needs better QB coaching. Can Satterfield do this or does Rhule need to bring in someone else? Sims has “improved” running some of the motion stuff but is still inept
I think the whole year has been a cluster on offense and I haven’t seen the offense develop. It’s tough with personnel and injuries but Illinois is able to win games while we slide on offense. I’d like to know what the plan is moving forward after this year: hopefully it involves more QB coaching this program needs it

Purdy’s first action in this offense looked great until the first and goal downs. Impressive drive but that video of that iNT is going to eat at him. I suspect he wouldn’t throw that pass again but that’s an awful play design.

You take 2 of our 5 turnovers away and we win by 10 at least. Turnovers are the problem more so than the offense. That’s in the QBs today.

2 HS QBs and 2 Transfer portals.. pay all four big NIL money with a clause to double for the starter and incentives for ball security and wins…

I honestly don't know. Can you have built in incentive clauses in those contracts? Performance based clauses? If you can, I guess that takes some of the risk out of NIL but I thought all the money was guaranteed to the kid regardless of playing time etc...

No. You explicitly cannot write those clauses into NIL.

Nope, gotta take two. It’s a tough maneuver, but it’s gotta be two. One top Jr/Sr, pay whatever it takes, and one sophomore (possibly G5 guy) that just wants a shot at the big time. Be totally transparent with both QBs, let them know it will be an open competition and the best QB will play. Gotta massage this one right, we need 1 or 2 HS QBs and 2 transfers. Gotta hit on 1 or 2 of them.

I've always been a fan of at least some continuity so I'd like HH and possibly Purdy to stay in the qb room as backups. I think the writing is on the wall for Sims. We need to find our starter in the transfer portal. We already got our HS recruit, and relying on a HS recruit who's not absolutely top notch is a recipe for disaster. Don't really care that much about eligibility if he's good. Let's just put one good season together for once.

Get rid of every one of these clowns. Sounds good to me. Good qb play, 8-2. Good coaching? 8-2. Call the shit like it is and quit trying to make excuses for these incompetent clowns from Matt on down.

Too bad Donnie couldn’t do either job he was retained to do
Why do you think it’s his fault that defenses don’t respect our pass game and thus crowd the line of scrimmage? Yet, we still have a pretty good run game. You always talk about complementary football. Which players arent holding up their end of the bargain? It aint the line.

This times a thousand. Any QB currently on the roster SHOULDNT be a QB on this team next year. It's pretty clear they bring nothing.. I'd let HH play Back/TE , I'd let Sims walk and I'd escort Purdy out the door as well. Clean sweep imo.

Do we think our Oline play is good enough that a quality QB will think this is a good landing place?
Many posters are saying 2 transfer QBs are mandatory, why would a second quality transfer would want to come after a first commits?

Missouri wanted Kaelin. We should strive to be as good as Missouri is this year. It appears they know something about QBs. That said, a guy who has something on tape even as a backup becomes more attractive just because he’s shown he can do it against a D-1 defense. It’s still virtually impossible to guarantee a QB will come in and be successful for you.

Purdy at least has shown he can lead a drive. His INT was not unexpected that crappy play design and call in that situation. We can wish for a portal savior but I don’t see it happening
