What will it take to get better

What will it take for the ‘21 Huskers to take a big step? Give me your thoughts. I’ll start:

A small change in offensive philosophy:

-More downhill RB game
-Less QB run game
- More play action deep shots

And much better special teams play

That sounds on the money to me. Except warp-9 speed animals like E. Crouch & T. Mart don't hurt things too much. :)

stop destroying the run game
martinez has to do better then 14 touchdown and 12 interceptions
defense needs to blitz more
better judgement recruiting, less washingtons

They've gotta get their run game going. If they can do that it means a few things:

1) They're blocking properly along the o-line
2) The philosophy is admitting you have to run to open up the other stuff, you can't have it the other way
3) They have an effective RB or two

We haven't seen those things happen consistently yet in the SF era except for MAYBE in year one.

Great list. Just to throw in 2 extra cents..

Penny 1 - Better execution - (no penalties&miss blocks or tackles)
Penny 2 - Keep improving the pass rush.

Here's what I'd put as my top 5:

1. Significantly reduce mental mistakes across the board (ie. penalties, turnovers, play-calling, etc).
2. Everything special teams.
3. Emphasize the downhill running game with our RB's.
4. Emphasize the downfield passing game with both WR's and TE's.
5. Increase the aggressiveness of our secondary, with a primary focus on interceptions and playing the ball.
