If we can keep KW its unlikely that other schools will try to take him away from us. He could be a long term coach for us. I call that a win win situation. GRB

Well, heck...in that case, Kaz was a good recruiter.

I do agree with you by the way...just kind of sounds like bribery or something.

How sad is it that Nebraska football has gotten to the point that I'm hoping we keep a WR coach on board with a drinking problem so that we can reclaim a fraction of what we used to be? Rhetorical, that's going to be different for everyone, but it kind of hit me, man I'm desperate for a winning team again.

+1 ... if our LBs continue to impress perhaps we should get coach Bray lit one night and toss him the car keys as well

This really nails my emotions/thoughts too. Great post

Bob Devaney and Frank Solich say hi.

I totally disagree, it's not sad at all. I hope they keep the man instead of kicking him to the curb. I lived with an alcoholic most of my young life. You have no idea if this man has a drinking problem. I'm not going to judge him & neither should you. Has he made bad choices? Yes. Is it correctable? Yes. Will I stand by him after he was cleared by HR personnel at UNL? Yes. This isn't all about reclaiming what we had. This is also about having faith in a man that is a leader. I can promise you that the majority of the people on this board have a past they would be embarrassed about if they were put in this spotlight

I made numerous drinking choices when I was younger(I'm 56). My wife stood by my & had faith. We've been married for 35 years, have 2 beautiful children & they have fantastic families. If my wife & bosses would have kicked me to the curb when I was young & struggling I would be dead. No, that is not sad.

Thank you so much for a heartfelt statement. GBR

Sparky I respect this. And for the record I think KW should be retained. And for all the reasons you state. But I would add two points:

1. There is a huge difference between being compassionate toward alcoholics, and being tolerant of third time offender drunk drivers. I am a bit surprised that a firefighter such as yourself, who has probably witnessed a lot of carnage created by drunk drivers, cannot see why some of us can be both compassionate toward alcoholics AND still be stern with drunk drivers. And by the way... We do not know if KW is an alcoholic or just a man who likes to get drunk now and then, and then irresponsibly get behind the wheel.

2. I think the further point being made is that the desire of many on here to retain KW has very little to do with compassion and a lot to do with a desperate desire for our football program to return to glory. I admit that I am probably, at least partially, influenced by that desire. And it makes me a little ashamed.

Third time DUI leads me to believe he might have a drinking problem, everyone's mileage may vary on that, but it's my opinion he probably has one. BUT, I also admit I should have more than the one DUI I have, so am I really judging him? I feel like he took that equation out of my hands by getting busted 3 times for DUI, and the third time at an age old enough to know better and possibly jeopardize a great career.
