Don't know if this is true, or even partially true, but I have to wonder whether what is happening now with all of the players who are getting into the portal is that the 2025 NIL deals have been presented and the players are reacting accordingly, hoping to score a better deal before their career is over.
Look at Butler, Williams, Wallin, and Jackson. What if they sat down with these players and told them that the dollars are going to be allocated to players that they see as having better upside such as Davis, Jeudy, Van Popple, Lefotu, and Terry, and that they see the portal market and think they can use the remaining available money more wisely on a couple of targets in the portal who have more upside?
Same with Coleman and Hall, we have some pretty highly ranked young WR to pay and will be looking for one in the portal. Hopefully this was communicated and that's the reason they're leaving. The DK situation is simple math. The kid they signed on Wednesday is just way better and with DR2 coming the next year, the chance of him playing or getting paid is pretty remote.
Gbayor, Princewell, and Thompson, maybe McGahee, Shavers, Jones, and Merritt have more upside, maybe they're banking on Wright getting another year and a good portal pick who both need money.
Anyway, I hope this is happening this way. If this is actually happening at all of the affected position groups, it's a better situation than the appearance that the rats are jumping off a sinking ship.
