some of you have alot of x & o talent. What would you recommend? Is it scheme? Is it effort? Conditioning? Is it talent? All were pretty highly recruited except Conrad, right? Other teams play freshmen on the O-line. And I know I"ll get alot of fire Cav in this thread. Is that really all there is to it?
Callahan is an O-line genious but we weren't stellar when he was here either. What is it?

I think you mean all were pretty highly recruited except Conrad. Farmer was an UA All-American and the highest rated of the bunch. Conrad was a walk-on.

Have a more confident QB that makes quicker decisions
For sure, this would help a ton. I'll add:

In the running game back to more power schemes. Were was all the pulling we saw the first couple games?

In the passing game. More max protect, or at least having a TE or RB help in protection. Also more three step drops with quick reads. Flys, slants, etc. Lee only seems effective with the dep drop on PA.

Fire Cav immediately. Send a message.

A lot of Lee's problem right now is he is staring down receivers. So a 3-step and throw to this guy isn't necessary a solution.

The OL flat out played like trash. They got whipped and that's about all you can call it. NIU was ready for all our offensive calling cards and Nebraska folded under the pressure.

They could play pissed off and crazy, at least then when mistakes happen we could say, "man that kid is really pissed, too bad he jumped off sides!"

Seems to me that we are not ready to play. It's like we'll need a few games of guys going full speed at us for the line to start to gel. I heard a story from the Pelini era of scout team players getting pressured by the starting OL not to go full speed against them. This line plays like that-- it's as if they aren't ready for full speed action with stunts, blitzes and the whole nine yards.

Ok, but 2015 happened and that was MRs "gimme year". MR came here to do two things, win and drink beer and we're fresh out of beer.

In regards to the OL, I'm really curious how much improvement in strength and conditioning has been made since they enrolled at Nebraska? Specifically explosive speed and agility. Haven't heard updated roster testing results for a while. Maybe there's a reason why? Lol

Call better plays. Run an offense that fits the mold of our players. have a competent OC. DO I need to continue. We have linemen that have some talent but we ask them to do things they can't do. Because our staff knows only what they do. That's why we suck

One thing that would support your point is some of those screen passes to the backs. I don't think Cav knows how to coach that play. It's never worked and we still run it. There's always at least one defender that the back has to contend with immediately after catching the ball.

I thought the screen game was going to be improved this year? They usually work against teams that are pinning their ears back.

Any misdirection in the play book? Maybe the coaches think a draw is misdirection?

The two players in motion, flipping the strong side of the formation, and then having another motion man, needs to stop. It's not helping Lee figure out where to throw the ball, ands it's not helping our tackles or tightends know who to block.

I am at a loss, but these would be some starting points.

Get a different coach...Other than that, Farniok needs to sit. We need to find something else for that RT position. The OL is regressing and looks poorly coached all around.

Well, Diaco said himself that the OL now has a huge advantage by being able to block off the line. So Why Are We Not Taking Advantage Of That???

Exactly, the rules in college football are skewed in the offenses advantage. We choose not to take advantage of them, but our defense has to defend against it. We need to play modern college football offense.

Two things, I am on record in stating that DL does a better job of play calling than most give him credit for. The plays he calls are open a lot of time. What I think what this staff doesn't have is a specific offensive identity. They scheme week to week to the opponent. They also tend to run the same plays with the same formation. We don't run the ball often enough with the first team WR out there and they don't pass much in 2-1 personnel. I would like to see that mixed up a bit.

Well you just got your wish you #######. Apparently Farniok played at least part of the game with a broken bone in his wrist. Surgery today it sounds like. He's out for probably 4 weeks minimum.

I wondered about the Farniok news. Didn't see any injury during the game. Could it have happened afterword- like out of frustration? Pure speculation.

Don't know. Sounds like he played at least part of the game with but I haven't heard anything for sure about when it happened.

your close but make it all 1's vs 1's. No contact during the week makes players weak.

If you watched the Denver/Dallas game yesterday, it was pretty remarkable how physical Denver's D was. I heard a talking head go over how Vance Joseph's philosophy is much more contact in practice than in previous regimes - boy did it show yesterday.

I hate to be "run the ball" guy, but I REALLY think our o-line could be helped by some commitment to the run. I just think defenses are teeing off on us because we show no willingness to run and we definitely have a QB who won't hurt a D with a scramble. It makes it so much easier on our opponents.

Don't act like you've never bagged on a player before... I've never seen an O lineman play as bad as Farniok did in the NIU game. Our players shouldn't be playing hurt and ruining their confidence.

Try as you may, there is no justification for you saying the things you said about a redshirt freshman starting his second game and playing as hard as he could. None.

With this team Cav appears hell bent on playing five guys without substitutions unless a player gets hurt. The starters have no fear of losing their job so I'm not sure we are getting maximum effort from them. On most teams starters better play hard or fear losing their job to a hungry sub. This is not Cav's policy.
When Conrad went down for a play or two his sub came in and made good blocks and was praised by the tv guys.

I watch a lot of college ball and to me the OL appears soft and has no nastiness or mean streak to them. Watch the OL play at other schools and you will see how soft we are to date. When you get your ass kicked by a Mac DL that speaks volumes.

Watch the game again. We pulled plenty. Conrad kept getting pushed back into the pullers path rendering it ineffective.

That's the worst performance I've ever seen from an o line player. If the biggest issue is him being hurt, then he shouldn't be playing hurt because it's going to kill his confidence. We have other options at the RT spot. I never said he couldn't improve. He's a long way right now, but with time and coaching, I think Farniok can be a good player for us.
