what are you guys expecting from the spring game? I want to see a consistent run game turnovers from the defense and a nasty attitude from the defense and offensive line.

I can't wait till a 5th string running back has a nifty 12 yard run against the 3rd string D. That way "run the ball" guy will have something to yell and get pissed about next Fall

That 5th stringer better be from a small town...better have learned "work ethic" through farming/ranching and better have a name like Clay, Colt or Dirk.

OL blocking the right guys. After that everything thing is downhill.

To be completely honest, because it is literally just a scrimmage I'm only looking forward to three things:

(1) Seeing how Tanner Lee and Patrick O'Brien have connected with their receivers, running backs and linemen. Riley said they both run equally between the 1 and 2-deep so it will be perfectly clear to me how much work they have put in and how much the QBs have synched over the offseason. It will also tell me who has the edge at starting heading into summer.

(2) Seeing how much of the (a) 3-4 scheme and (b) passion that the defense has soaked up from Diaco and our highly touted defensive staff.

(3) Seeing 2 talented recruits commit to Nebraska this weekend. It's time to get into the Top 15 nationally and stay there.

I'm looking forward to seeing a more wide open playbook that was apparently shut down due to interceptions last season. Looking forward to seeing one running back break out of the pack.

Looking forward to seeing a faster D with sound tackling.

That's about it.

You're joking if you think you're going to see a more wide open playbook in a scrimmage game.

A lot of good battles across the board for the spring game.

The roster will be divided in half, I doubt you will see much "chemistry" on either unit.

I am looking for a vanilla game, with a bunch of runs, a few check down passes and a few deep throws.

Don't expect to see too much. They won't be showing much. Not sure if it has been announced yet, but I think we will see an offense vs. defense format we saw last year.

EDIT: Just saw where they will be drafting the two teams and will play a regular game in the first half and then 2 15 minute quarters with a running clock in the second half.

How about Wyatt or Austin?
Wyatt Mazour is probably going to play in some capacity this fall if Riley was being truthful about him a few weeks ago..Supposedly he would have been on the return teams last year if not for an injury.

Practice. It's only a practice. Save all the good stuff for game day. Alternate Uniforms. How we going to get new recruits if we ain't got "Cool Stuff" If any new stuff has been added to the concession stand. You can't keep the sellout streak going without new perks for the fans cause as per ESPN we're only going to win six games. How big a fool Husker fans can make of themselves over 17 and 18 year old high school boys

Let any recruit that wants to verbal to it live on the big screen...not sure if that is a violation or not but I would let the recruits know that ahead of time. If you want to give us your verbal, let us know, we will let you do it live on the jumbotron.

Wasn't joking, but glad you found it humorous. By wide open, I'm suggesting more passing routes, passes to tight ends, screen passes. I'm not suggesting they show their whole playbook, but I'm also hoping we don't see a lot of handoffs and deep go routes.

Yours is a very good post. It may be basic, but it is the new offense and what they want from a QB. I am really glad they are going with more of a team and game format. I take a group every year and its much easier and fun to watch for the common fan; than some O vs D format they would have to learn, imo. I really enjoy being there, you can really get a sense of how the team and individual players are performing. GBR

These games are never true games or valid indicators of how well we will play in real games. There is always some "break out guy" that everyone gets excited about who we never see again.

The value of this game is mostly singular: recruiting. So what do I want to see?
1. No injuries
2. Record crowd that brings energy
3. Two or three commits within the week

I'd like to see a realistic response out of this board if somebody further down the depth chart has a nice showing.

Remember how much Peyton Newell hype there was last Spring? He play a lot of snaps in the fall or nah?

But getting a collective woody over "Mr. April" is a long-standing tradition. I still remember when Frank Lockett was going to make everyone forget about Johnny Rodgers - although to be fair, Lockett did get a cup of coffee in the NFL and a couple of seasons in the USFL. Also, remember when the dilemma on Dante Wiley was whether he could start at LB and still find time to be the greatest punter in the history of the program?

Those are a bit before my time. In fairness, DPE on punt return was one spring flash that turned out to have substance.

I’d like to see the first QB to take a snap, drop back in the pocket and stand tall as the crowd rises with anticipation of seeing a perfect spiral hitting a receiver on time and in stride, then at the first hint of outside pressure, spin and retreat 15 yards in a large arching path and with a mighty heave off his back foot, launch the ball in the general direction of the furthest receiver downfield. Then stand, arms raised, basking in the sight of 75,000 fans collectively dropping their heads to their hands, women and children wailing and grown men muttering incoherently in disbelief, searching for their happy place.

If only the game were on April 1st, it would be a perfect, albeit sadistic, prank on the husker nation.

Mikale Wilbon is the best running back ever..... right?

If we see the defense creating all kinds of TO's running a newly installed, vanilla spring game D, this board will be all kinds of butt hurt.

Mainly because, Lee or POB should be better than to turn the ball over like that, at this point in their careers. The Riley torches will be out.

Recruiting - would be nice to see some immediate commits (within a couple days).

Defense - Just to see how well players know their positions/responsibilities.

I'm still operating off of Langsdorf's comments about the offense not be retooled to fit the qb's, how we could have a dual threat qb in a couple years. Coaching comments have been made that it will be pretty "vanilla". We may not know who the projected starters will be, but we might get a could indication of the two-deep.

Since this game should do nothing more than entertain the fans and recruits, I'd like to see the game go full 2005 spring game mode on us. Just QB's chucking up deep passes everywhere against the 2nd/3rd string DB's. I know its not going to be what happens, but it would be fun to watch.

I expect: 1) a super-limited playbook showing very little, and 2) a running clock to keep the second half as short as possible so it looks like they're giving fans a show, but really they just want to get back to the locker room without any injuries.

I'll be excited if the defense isn't running around pre-snap , looking confused about where they're suppose to line up.

I am expecting a full out effort by players. There are multiple positions up for grabs and everyone wants to give the coaches some good things to remember them by and grade them on from this spring. I expect to see players challenged with a slightly opened up play book so we can see how players handle more than the the basics. I want to see both QB's take snaps with the first unit players running similar plays against comparable D's.
