Does anyone know more about the exact nature of his injury? I read "groin pull" like everyone else, but that can mean a lot of things. Is this a holdover injury from the Fall that he reaggravated or is it something new? It must be pretty bad for Riley to say he is probably done for the Spring. Or is that just using an abundance of caution for an experienced veteran who who can afford to miss the Spring? We need him in the lineup and I hope this does not turn out to be a long term nagging injury.

No info; but you are talking about a potential nagging injury - so some of these things do heal better with time and less stress - you did a nice job of answering the root of most of these questions.

I don't remember any type of groin injury in the fall, so I don't think it is a holdover. I know nothing about the injury, and as good as JW is, we are deep at the position. Wouldn't want to lose him, but if we did, I still think we absorb this loss better than some others... Agree that we need him in the lineup as he gives us our best chance at being good, but we would still be ok without him, imho.

The really valuable thing about Westy is that he and TA have a real good chemistry and TA seems to find him consistently for big plays. Look at that final drive against MSU last year. Not saying another receiver could not have gotten open, but there is no doubt Westy and TA click.

I reported last week it was called a sports hernia by a team spokesman.

If Westerkamp has a sports hernia, I hope he says screw spring practice and just gets it repaired. So many people seem to put that surgery off, put themselves through a lot of agony, then end up having surgery anyway. And the recovery is nothing compared to the pain you can get if you make a hard cut or shift your weight just the wrong way. Get it fixed and get well.

He is out for the rest of the spring.

Isn't a sport's hernia what DeAngelo Evans had back in 1997-8? If memory serves it was a chronic and nagging injury that effectively derailed one of his seasons. So I hope Westerkamp is getting good medical advice. I am sure he met be.

Evans also had a case of Pussitis.
That may be, but have you ever played football or basketball with a sports hernia?

Mine was only in high school, which is certainly not as intense as big time college sports. And yet it was still like getting stabbed in the groin with an ice pick about 10 times every day in practice.

I can remember on more than one occasion our best senior players mysterially getting some kind of injury that kept them out of spring ball. That injury is called "not getting your best senior players hurt in spring ball." He'll have a miraculous 100% recovery for the fall.

I heard they are roommates. Don't know if it's true or not. But that could contribute to their chemistry.
