Here are some quick notes and observations to pass along from Nebraska's full-padded practice on Wednesday afternoon. Click the link below for our full Wednesday practice notebook...
***Head coach Mike Riley announced that Saturday's Spring Game would be broken up into the same Red and White teams the Huskers have used in practice all spring, with some mixing and matching at positions with less depth on special teams.
***Riley said it would be a regular game format, with four 20-minute quarters and a running clock that would only stop after possession changes (including scores). He also said as of right now quarterbacks will be live for contact.
***Nebraska's athletic department announced Wednesday that more than 65,000 tickets have been sold for the spring game, and with a large walk-up crowd the total attendance is expected to reach over 70,000. Riley said he was very excited to get his first experience of an NU game day, especially since Oregon State's spring game had "a few thousand" fans.
***Riley said he was interested in seeing how the players reacted to playing in front of such a large crowd, especially some of the younger guys getting their first taste playing in that kind of environment.
***As spring ball comes to a close, Riley said his biggest concerns about his team were the lack of depth at linebacker and center. On the other hand, he said he felt the best about the depth on the offensive and defensive lines, wide receiver and in the secondary.
***Asked if AJ Bush had made the biggest jump of any Nebraska quarterback so far this spring, Riley said that was "possibly true", adding that he's been very impressed with Bush's development over the past four weeks.
***Riley made sure to add that Tommy Armstrong was Nebraska's "most confident" quarterback right now, as he should be with the experience advantage he has. Riley said Armstrong's confidence as a leader carries over onto the field, and there was a lot of respect for him in NU's locker room.
***Former Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion, who is the Pac-12's all-time leading passer, was in attendance for Wednesday's practice. Mannion is in town not only to see his old coaches, he also worked out for some NFL scouts earlier in the day.
***Conerback Daniel Davie was back on the sidelines Wednesday after finally returning to action on Monday. Davie had missed the past two weeks of spring ball with an ankle sprain and apparently aggravated the injury on Monday.
