  • We were told this staff is experienced and that will show in the play on the field - not
  • We were told Banker can stop the run - not
  • We were told Riley and Langsdorf are QB gurus and will improve TA - NOT
  • We were told having a dedicated special teams coach will make a difference - its hurt
This staff's first year at 5-7 is a complete disaster - I think we have one more year of this junk and start all over again

PS - Oregon State ( oops I mean NU) only upsets one team a year

Got to make better decisions and execute. Iowa is 11 puts better because we are making too many mistakes.

Down 11, 4th and one, have the pick specialist throw a long fade. Frosting on the cake.

Banker's run defense this year is 1000% better than what Bo's has been the last five years. If you're not willing to admit that, then I can't help you. Even the best run defenses give up a big play every now and then.

The only valid point you made was 1. Your agenda is clear and has been. We get it. Banker did stop the run aside from two runs to the side of the field where our ejected safety played. Maybe TA cannot be helped in one season? Maybe if they had some decent depth behind him he would be pushed better? Maybe if we had DPE healthy this year the special teams would have been that much better?Never mind, you're right. Clearly no other reason for these shortcomings except the staff can't coach. Give me a break.

And if you aren't willing to admit we can't judge the current staff based on Bo friggin Pelini , I can't help you. Bo is gone. No one wants him back. It is possible to not like Bo or this staff full of perennial losers.

So you are okay with the special teams play and execution?

Cc I won't argue with all of your post but If you can honestly say you're ok with this years special teams since one punt returner was out and we shouldn't wonder why we have a paid special teams coach then you are the blind one. We have gotten worse there and it has nothin to do with punt returns. We were told by everyone how glorious it all would be with a special teams coach. Wrong. We got in our own way a lot.

What do you want to take issue with? The best punter in the conference? Drew Brown didn't regress. The return game did, but it was putrid under the previous staff prior to DPE. What are the grounds for criticism?

I highly doubt DPE would have returned any of the punts today because Westy was consistently surrounded by 2-3 defenders everytime he caught the ball.

It could have been worse than I've made it out to be, but absent some data that shows that outside of DPE I am reserving judgment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not real happy with the special teams, but it's unclear to me that it's any worse.

I can't figure out what our strategy is on punts. We don't rush the punter, we do not block at the line of scrimmage. It baffles me. The only thing I can guess is that we are designed to set up blocks down field after our returner makes the first seven guys miss.

We can then block the three protectors and the punter. Ten against four. Should work for a td every time

I mean, I guess we could compare Banker's job to the one Nick Saban is doing, but that seems a bit unfair. At least in year one.

I'll second this. I don;t get the approach

Well, I actually counted 7 on 2 occasions, maybe 3. Could have been other times, didn't start paying attention to that until I noticed it the first time.

Punt/kick coverage... not downing easy punts inside the 20... kicker can't kick into end zone, iowa did.... season long problems that a dedicated coach should be able to correct

Good coaches overcome some of these things but these guys by their coaching or lack of it contribute to losses.

Please tell me how Riley and Langsdorf both passing guys have been with TA for a year and we see no improvement in mechanics or decision making

I mean, you can look at the stats if you want, but I'm shocked this is actually up for debate. Bo's run defense last year was gashed early and often. Banker's has been very solid, if not spectacular all year. Some of you guys are just ridiculous.
We were certainly spectacular defensively against Purdue

4 INTs will beat most teams and we are not good enough to overcome 4 INTS.
4 ints. Almost 100 yrds in penalties and we still kept it to a 1 score game. Either Iowa is really not that good or we are not that bad. A different qb and we win this game and probably many others this year.

Yes the 4th and 1 shotgun pass play was interesting to say the least! You put cross and Janovitch in there and run it down their throats.

a different staff or at least one with clock management skills and some feel for play calling and we probably win many others also

I agree on that point too. This staff has made some very iffy plays calls and very important times. Now I don't know if this falls on MR or Lang. IF it has all been Lang, he needs to be shown the door. IF it is Riley we are doomed, because a coach with as many years under his belt as him, should not be making these simple errors.
It has just been the perfect storm of bad:
New coaches
new schemes
poor player mentality
poor play calling
poor QB play
no depth
injuries

They can't make the decisions where to throw the ball for him. They can't force him to throw off his front foot. They can't make him not throw into double and triple coverage. I do assume they discourage him from doing these things.
