I'm starting to see what he's doing. Tanner Lee reminded me of joe montana running a 2 minute drill at the end of the game. we get a lil better blocking, and a defense who tackles a bit better. maybe one or two more recivers like rice and Stallworth...things could turn out ok.

It would be a lot better then frost blowing up the program, again, and having all the "fans" turn on him in year 2.

Frost is a risk no doubt, but Riley is as well at this point. I do think the fans would give Frost a bit more time than 2 years.

Bye bye sellout if Riley stays. This team is not fun to watch on either side of the ball. Sitting four hours on uncomfortable benches watching a team pass it 50 times and rushing three on defense is just too much for fans to endure.

It was a great game watching Riley - a coach with a decade plus of "experience" in a power 5 conference now in his third year at Nebraska - match wits with Brohm - in his first year as head coach in a power 5 conf and his first year at perennial bottom dweller Purdue.

Pretty much an even match up.

Maybe Riley will do enough to keep his job and we can all look forward to the budding rivalry we have going with Purdue. Who knows maybe it will become another trophy game for us and in a couple decades it will become one of those BIG traditional rivalries that no one outside of the 2 fan bases really give a shit about.

First- they were playing Purdue
Second- have you watched any of his past games?

The reason that worked is because it was against PURDUE!!!

If you are of the delusion that play will work against WI, OSU, PSU drink another.

Purdue is not good. They even lost to us!

I agree. How can we argue with his past coaching successes? Its completely unrealistic to expect improved development and performance from players in such a short time. Let him work that 5 year retirement...I mean coaching plan and we will be enjoying the successes Riley has brought to every institution he has coached.

Please leave our fan base.

We gave Solich 6, Cally 4, and Pelini 7. That is average of just below six years. My personal view is that Riley is being given less time because he was never a popular hire from the get go.
I think this is largely true. He followed coach who had become toxic, at the very least toxic to his AD. And from some of the stories out of Corvallis, he may be have gotten out of town before the sheriff got him.

What offensive line coach in his right mind comes to Nebraska under Riley when he knows Riley is done in 2 years? Not firing Cavanaugh last season sealed his fate.

Ok, so what you’re saying would normally make sense, but in this circumstance it doesn’t. I’ll tell you why. 1. We have a chance to bring in an extremely talented coach that runs an exciting and explosive offense. He went to Nebraska, loves Nebraska and could probably give a major, much needed boost to our recruiting. Frost is the real deal!!! Let’s face it, Riley is not recruiting at a level to get us back to winning championships. I think Frost could really give OSU, Penn State and Michigan a run for their money when it comes to recruiting. If we keep Riley for any longer it’s not going to improve much at all. What you see is what you get. By that time Frost is turning a big time program into a contender! Just watching this team with its lack of enthusiasm or fire is painful. Watching Riley on the sideline looking like he would rather be someplace else is painful. Not to mention, he always looks he just smoked a bowl before each game. Let’s move on. Bring in someone who gives a shit about this program and start winning championships!!! GBR!!!

I was more or less poking fun at us fans rather than being serious about Frost in my response above. :D

I think if Riley would have won 9 games in both of his first two seasons and a division crown that there wouldn't be quite as much of a push to get rid of him as it is where he had a losing season his first year here.

Didn't Tom Osborne say something along the lines about Nebraska not being used to having losing seasons and that having two losing seasons is not acceptable at Nebraska?

Riley having to losing seasons is a killer more than anything. There were quite a few Husker fans that were embarrassed that we went to a bowl game after a 5-7 season.

I knew you were just poking fun. Didn't mean it to come across as a criticism. It just got me thinking on the topic. But I agree... Husker fans are a pip!

Agreed on all this but I would add the O line is as soft and un athletic as I have ever seen.

2 losing seasons in 3 years is absolutely unacceptable at NU or any blue blood for that matter. And the day we accept it is the day we have truly embraced mediocrity. There is no way we can't find someone who can do better. Bo was better and we know what happened with that.

I disagree with you OP for two reasons:
1. I have been around football many years and this is the softest, most undisciplined team I have ever seen not counting Kansas every year.

2. Adam Carriker who I respect said “ this program is regressing.” He’s right.

Two more years will bring us more of the same and simply prolong the inevitable.

Well said. As I said in a different thread, some people say no to Frost because he only has a two year track record as a head coach. But what does Riley's very long track record show us? It shows us that the soft and undisciplined team we are seeing is pretty much what 85% of Riley's teams over the years have done. So why give him even more time? Let's just admit it was a bad hire and move on.

With a December signing day we should follow suit with UF and make a move before Iowa.

Wrong-- it's because he is 19-15 as HC here and overall 112-95! Let that sink in a little

You may be right. Riley said they turned the corner in the last two minutes last night. This may be the start of something really big. We were patient with TO and that got us three more national titles. I'm guessing the rest of the Big Ten watched that last two minutes and now are quaking in their shoes a bit.

Quaking in their shoes? I hope so. Lol. But I highly doubt it

Don't disagree. Because his lackluster record before getting here is what made him an unpopular hire. So when he started losing games here people did not cut him any slack. They saw more of the same.

Welp, op has me believing, those last 2 minutes of the game are a sign of things to come, we play lights out 2 minute drill all 60 minutes of the game and decimate our enemies. 100-14 NU over PSU! We can consistently play our 2 minute drill and nothing the other team can do to stop us!!!

Nebraska’s status as a football program has been downgraded to a couple of things:

1) Homecoming opponent

2) New non conference add on for easy victory.

Yep. Listening to Jim Rome today he was pointing out that Ohio State came out flat last week in part because they had gotten “fat” “eating cupcakes”.

Well done, Riley. Well done.

So how long does it take a good coach to just show improvement from the time he started?

Does anyone even really believe this team would beat the Nebraska team that won the bowl game in 2015?
