Other site reporting he cancelled his visit to go visit Iowa state instead. What the heck is going on with DL recruiting?

We always seem to lose out to highly regarded recruits to Iowa State...typical. Winking

Pipelines are where you win games. Period. OL recruiting looks like it's headed in a decent direction. But man I hope they get DL figured out very soon. NSD is less than a month away. This staff has gotta get a couple good pass rushers for this class. Losing Collins & VV didn't help, so S&B are right. The spotlight is on Hughes, because to get back at least to the into top 15 they have to reel 'em in. I know it's obvious, but still. Hoping for the best!

I'm not sure Watts is one of those guys that was going to make a difference. I've heard some rumblings that he may not qualify so we are looking elsewhere. We've got some pass rushers coming.

Pass rushers may not be needed as much as you are saying here. Alex Davis, Freedom and Daishon Neal all are pass rushers and all are very young. I wouldn't mind seeing us land another speedy pass rusher as you can never have to many, but to say it is a necessity I disagree.

If he wasn't going to qualify at Nebraska, he sure as hell is going to qualify at Iowa.

ISU not Iowa I think. Some programs are more willing to risk holding a spot for a kid because he would make a difference for their program. Unfortunately we had to do that way too much over the past 7 years to try to fill the class with D-1 players.

Yeah. I misread ISU for Iowa. How could he possibly not qualify at Nebraska?

Can anyone give the Cliff's Notes version of the issue?
You'll have to listen to segment 5 on Sharp & Benning. They said a few times, "Hughes is in the spotlight" or "Hughes needs to be looked at".

That can mean many different things. I'm taking it as they meant Hughes needs to be looked at at what he's doing as a DL coach and how (good or bad) he's doing his job. I don't think they really meant anything towards Hughes and Watts. But I could be wrong.

I am much more concerned about DT. That is a position that is hard to recruit to, alot of busts, and a position where depth is key. And we don't have a HS commit right now (I think you should take two each cycle). I am honestly not very concerned with any other position in this class, but DT has me very worried.

I heard Ivy is questionable to qualify. I haven't heard that about Watts, but maybe. Or somebody above confused Watts and Ivy academics.

I wonder if Rands is an option again? Has Wisky hired a DC yet?

Completely agree that we need DTs too. If Banker wants his run defense theory to continue working, I think he has to get a couple of big bodies in this class to clog up the middle in the future.

Okay, apparently some Husker D-linemen weren't happy with Hughes this year and didn't know where they stood day to day in the pecking order. And Valentine wouldn't work hard for Hughes either. But Hughes also had a tough situation with Kaz, a former coach staying in touch with his former players.

I think we should let Coach Hughes have a couple more years. Let's see what he can do.

I would think not being sure where you stand in the pecking order would be good for competition. IF you don't want to compete for your job, hit the road.

Given the general turn around in run defense, I don't really see a huge problem with Hughes coaching. Not anything that screams "fire me now" at least. Recruiting going forward we'll have to see.

The general tone of the board seems to be "take anyone willing to sign", Banker and Riley have come out and said they want to sit at 15 for the DL and they like guys on the roster. We're at 14, which doesn't jive with a "take anyone that will sign" attitude.
