Per Phil Steele's 2017 mag in Oregon section:
"Mark Helfrich was 24-4 with Marcus Mariota at QB and 13-12 without him."
I realize there are some other factors like likely living off previous staff's recruits and some asst coach changes, but no question that a great QB for your system elevates an otherwise avg to good team to greatness for sure. Oregon still has some nasty skilled position players who will rock most teams again this year.
So if you're looking for a way you can climb into the mix without a ton of 4 stars or 5 stars, great QBs like Russell Wilson and Mariota give you a chance to be close, still no cigar however for either team
