I think there may be an announcement this weekend. There are 3 scholarships open as I understand it. I know Riley said there are many more than 3 worthy candidates.

Utter - pretty much a given. He looks like he'll be a starter.

After that, it's tough to pick. Dzuris looks like he's 2nd team DE (if we ever get a depth chart). Tre Foster is fighting for the #2 TE spot. Hovey will be in the WR rotation once he gets healthy. Nabbity has gotten a lot of praise and I think he'll be on special teams. Broekemeier is a senior (the others are juniors) who would free up a scholarship next year, and it would reward him for his time. Plus he's a valuable reserve QB, and apparently back-up punter as well. There are probably others as well who'll play a lot on special teams.

I thought I heard they HAVE to award those schollies before the fall term starts Monday. If so, maybe they will after practice today.

Another board reports that Trey Foster has a scholarship. Said that DJ Foster posted something about it yesterday on social media. So I expect the players know now. That probably means we'll hear an announcement soon.

There are 4 scholies open right now is my understanding and there might be one more.

Find four guys, if that's the number that will contribute this year. If they are seniors great, if a junior great. Reward the improvement and ability to make the Huskers a better football team.

Sounds like scholarships out of high school are 4 years, but walk-on scholarships are renewed (or not renewed) at the coaches' decision every year. Burtch hasn't been able to stay healthy so he really hasn't been able to show Riley anything.

Good analogy.
Sounds like "Mr. Doesn't Belong at NU" QB got his scholarship renewed as well. I guess Riley doesn't agree with our resident free board talent analyst. Tough deal for Burtch and I wonder if that can be worked in to a medical. For heaven's sake I hope somehow the program is covering his medical expenses at the very least.

Good info, I was concerned the new 4 year scholarship would impact the walk on program and those guys earning a scholarship for the year.
