So I pick my Cobalt 232 up from being summerized. The mechanic is a guy I like very well and does great work. He say's he didn't put the dual batteries on the trickle charger but it start right up. He was in a hurry to get it to me and I didn't think it would be a problem as I would get it in the water and run it around on the "both" battery setting to fully charge both batteries.
So I back her in the lake and throw the dual battery switch to battery #2. It cranks but won't start. Plenty of cranking power but no fire. It seemed like it wasn't getting any fuel. I switch it over to battery #1 and there is absolutely nothing. No cranking or anything. I try it back on battery #2 and the same thing happens, crank, crank, no fire.
I then think placing the dual battery switch on "both" would be fruitless as battery #1 seemed dead when I tried it. I give the mechanic a call and he comes out trying various things that didn't work. Finally we throw the dual battery switch to both and it fires right up!
Obviously the fuel pump must have been able to draw some juice from the almost dead battery #1 to make her pop. I have always been able to start this boat on either just battery #1 or #2. So, any boat guru's out there that can give me some insight as to what was happening?
It's a Mercury 350 Mag with the onboard smart system.
