I am watching the show again right now on the BTN. The radio announcer for the Wyoming game that you can here doing the broadcast on the NE/WY game was a great friend of mine by the name of Tim Ray. The sideline reporter for the Cowboys that day was Rich Bircumshaw, who worked for KTWO radio out of Casper during the week. Rich got me a sideline pass for the game on the Wyoming sideline. I remember him sending me to see if Tommy Frazier or Ron Brown would do an interview with him during the warmups and they both turned us down.
The rest of the game, I just stood on the Wyoming sideline in my Husker gear and watched the game. It was one of my favorite games I have ever been to since the Big Red beat the Cowboys and I was able to come home and not have to listen to anything from the Wyoming friends around here.
Tim Ray now works in Grand Junction CO for their minor league baseball team. Rich Bircumshaw was the sports broadcaster for my hometown of Riverton Wyoming in the early 80's before moving to work for KTWO in Casper. He was a great announcer who everyone loved. He later became the voice of the CSU Rams where he worked with Tim Miles and Sonny Lubbick. Rich passed away a few years back of a stroke and I think of him always. Especially on a boring day like this when I am watching the Brook Berringer show and thinking about some of the best days of my life. That day is certainly near the top of my list.
