Sounds like Xie is having lots of trouble internally and wants to get re-elected, but doesn't like how the Russian/Ukraine war has gone either..

Could his problems at home push him into a similar attack on Taiwan?

I don't have faith in western military to protect us. The west is not strong enough to fight the kind of war that Russia, and potentially China will bring.
