THEY WOULD DO THAT; it adds to their ego in some way we may not understand. Long ago Texas and Oklahoma got in a coaches salary war; giving raises to their head coaches without them asking - simply for bragging rights in regards to who was paying the most !!! Say it was Coach Stoops who was hired at a record amount : Texas didn't like having the 2nd highest paid head coach , so they gave theirs a raise. OK responded by raising their new coach a raise ; and so it went back and forth a few times.I hope Tom Herman realizes that he is in a really good situation where he is at, and makes it very expensive for UT to get him.
I'd love it if his agent told Bevo that the price to get him out of Houston is $10 million a year, and see if the boosters want him that badly. Yes I know Saban doesn't make that much.
Yes but there are limits to this insanity, even at Texas. 10 million a year? I highly doubt it. What if he signs a 5 year contract, but flops miserably in years one and two? You are then in a pickle since you would have a 30 million dollar buy out. Even with the deep pockets at Texas I can't see them taking that kind of risk. But IF they do go for a figure around 10 million a year, I would wager he would stay at Texas for at least three years and probably four regardless of his record.THEY WOULD DO THAT; it adds to their ego in some way we may not understand. Fan of your posts and insights. My addition to the 10 million comment, is that it wouldn't be out of their range of behavior; the money is a pittance to their resources. If they thought there was a " savior " coach out there; imo they would pay it. It would be a bigger problem finding an agent to think to ask for that much (lol). Your insights help with how a team with all the talent trying to get in; can squander those resources.Yes but there are limits to this insanity, even at Texas. 10 million a year? I highly doubt it. Personally, I am not certain he is a good fit for Texas anyway. All of that kissing and hugging of the players stuff seems decidedly "Un-Longhorn" to me. But he might be their best option. Petrino is an ass and a scumbag. Saban isn't going anywhere.
I think they should have kept Strong. He is a good coach. The problem with Texas has nothing to do with the coaching. It has to do with the whole Beavo "we are Texas" prima dona culture of the place, meddling from boosters and administrators, and the "party time", weed smoking culture of Austin.
Oh I agree. I would not be surprised if they did float that figure at a big name coach. So you might be right. I just think that even at Texas that some sense of sanity will prevail over an emotional desire to throw tons of money at the next big coach. It has to, right? LolFan of your posts and insights. ...... I will say I have taken C E at Texas in the past; even when we were in the 12; they were gracious and even AD people welcomed and checked on me. GBR

Funny to think back, what was Bo hired for ? Around 1.1 million ? Then got rapid increases as coaches salaries started to escalate. Just goes to show how rapidly a three fold increase in whats accepted or even required can happen ( even for 9 wins ). GBRHow much will Texas offer Bo?
And to think back in the day before he took the UT job he was promoted by some on here to be hired by NU......
Sounds about right.IMHO, it's going to be Herman, Herman, or Herman for no more than $6 million/year.

What is so strange about people spending their money on things they want to spend it on, vs. being forced to contribute to programs or belief system they may not support?Funny world we live in. Many of these boosters are probably ones who decry raising their taxes to pay for poor people but when it comes to getting a top-flight head coach, they will find the cash.

This. Unless you are talking about landing a sure fire coach like Saban or Meyer or Pete Carrol, you don't toss around 8-10 million on the flavor of the week "hot coach".Strong looked like sure-fire winner coming out of Louisville, just like Herman looks this year. The money boys may think twice.

And FYI I don't know why James Franklin's name has not been raised. It could be argued that PSU is actually the best team in the B1G right now. Franklin has pulled this off despite the lingering after effects of the sanctions.
True, but who knows? Money talksMaybe they assume he wouldn't be interested since he now has another name program doing well?

And if I lived in Texas I would favor a total freeze on social entitlement programs until the federal government gets serious about enforcing our border laws. In California one third of all social program spending goes toward illegals. One third!Apples and Oranges
Taxpayers are tired of paying for waste and bloated government.Government's only "cure" is more money, more money, more money.
Would love to steal some defensive/offensive line recruitsThe bigger question is : which recruits can we steal?
Ok you have all convinced me. Texas really is insane and they probably would throw buckets of money at Herman.
But LSU probably wants him too. So what does he do if Texas offers 10 million while LSU only offers in the ballpark of 4-6 million? Either way he is set for life. And the SEC is a far more stable and respected conference.
The next few weeks should be interesting

Probably not. But we can dream. Please don't crush my dreams. LolYeah, I don't think that's gonna happen.
