Press release:

Current Nebraska swimmers JoJo Randby and Gena Jorgenson are set to compete at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials beginning Saturday June 15 in Indianapolis, Ind. at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Rising senior Randby will swim in the 100 breaststroke prelim Sunday June 16 at 10 a.m. (CT). The top 16 finishers will move on to a semifinal Sunday night, beginning at 7 p.m. (CT), with the top-eight swimmers competing for two Olympic qualification spots Monday evening.

Randby currently holds the Nebraska school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.07. She clocked that time at the 2023 Big Ten Championships to break the 27-year-old record, previously held by Olympic gold medalist Penny Heyns. She hit the NCAA B Standard six times in the event this season, grabbing a first-overall finish at the Hawkeye Invite (1:00.54).

Jorgenson is set to compete in the 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle. She will begin with the 400 freestyle prelim June 15 at 10 a.m. (CT), with the final at 7 p.m. (CT). Jorgenson will compete in the 1500 freestyle prelim June 18 at 10 a.m. (CT), with the final June 19 at 7 p.m. (CT). She will wrap up the meet with the 800 freestyle prelim on June 21 at 10 a.m. (CT). Finals are slated for Saturday June 22 at 7 p.m. (CT). From Aberdeen, S.D., Jorgenson currently has the 800 freestyle (8:44.58) and 1500 freestyle (16:40.17) school records.

This past season, Jorgenson qualified for the 500 freestyle, 1650 freestyle and 400 IM at the NCAA Championships. She broke three school records en route to an eighth-place finish and First-Team All-America honors in the 1650 freestyle. As the first Husker swimmer to be named a First-Team All-American since 2001, Jorgenson’s NCAA Championship mile time of 15:55.71 is 19 seconds faster than any other 1650 swimmer in school history. She added a 27th-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:41.03) and a 33rd-place finish in the 400 IM (4:11.51).

Former Husker diver Abigail Knapton will also be competing at the U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials beginning Monday June 17 in Knoxville, Tenn. Knapton was a four-time First-Team All-American for the Huskers on the platform and a First-Team All-American on the three-meter in 2021. She was a two-time Big Ten Champion and the NCAA Zone D platform champion in 2017 and 2019.

Knapton will be competing in the Senior Women Platform and Synchronized Women Platform competitions. She and Katerina Hoffman will kick off the synchronized platform competition prelim on June 18 at 10 a.m. (CT) with finals scheduled for later that day. The individual platform competition begins June 21 at 9 a.m. (CT), with finals scheduled afterwards.

Knapton was named the Nebraska Athletics Female Student-Athlete of the Year and Nebraska Athletics Best Female Athlete for all sports following the 2020-21 season.

Both the swimming and diving competitions will be televised on NBC and Peacock. Swimming prelims will begin at 10 a.m (CT) and finals start at 7 p.m. (CT) each day.
