Turns out Ole Miss isn't just a lovely place to go to school?

Explains why the have improved in recruiting the past couple of years.. Ya think.

Ole Miss has been pretty obvious to anyone paying attention. Now let's see if anything happens. My guess is no, just look at Miami.

Made me laugh!

What was the name of the Washington receiver who 'flipped' and went from us to Ole Mi$$?

I think he's more highly regarded than you're giving him credit for, a lot more. Having said that, mush like the rest of the $EC, I am sure there is some funny business going on there but if you're a school like Old Miss, you might not ever be able to compete without the hundred dollar handshakes, which I have been told by a very famous ex player, used to happen at NU from time to time. Everyone knows him, he is discussed here frequently. He didn't make it sound like suitcases full of cash were being dropped off, but he was very clear about it as well. If you count roids, hundred dollar handshakes, etc, there are probably very few squeaky clean schools. Not condoning it, not saying that at all. I just think people would be really surprised if they knew what goes on. Remember hearing a former QB being told his parents would be given a bunch of cattle if he were to sign with (didn't name the school and they wer eranchers). Honestly, I don't want to know everything, it would depress me to much, I think NU runs a really clean ship and I prefer that, over what happens in the $EC.

I think what's going on at Ole Miss is more than $100 dollar handshakes.

Remember the movie "Working Girl" with Melanie Griffith? She had a great line at the end..."If you're on already on top you don't have to bend the rules, but if you're on the bottom there is no way to get to the top without bending them". How in the hell is Old Miss ever supposed to be anything more than a middle of the pack or cellar dweller if they don't bend the rules? I know it's wrong, I get it, I am just saying I understand it and I don't think NU is as squeaky clean as many believe over the course of our history so I am careful not to be to to critical of Old Miss. I don't know what the answer is, I do not have a solution, I admit it.

Honestly, I don't care how much they or other programs cheat. I was just linking the article up because there is a group of posters that have been suggesting Riley failed in some aspects of the 2016 recruiting season by losing guys to southern schools, and, that those schools were just doing a better job recruiting players. This is what Riley et al. are actually up against. We might be breaking some rules but it is nowhere near the level of programs like Ole Miss.

The sad part is we can all be confident that a hand slap is all that will go out, if anything. The NCAA has no teeth, only bleeding gum disease. Louisville being the most recent example - they've punished themselves to avoid anything major, and they'll be allowed to continue on with business as usual. Miami's "investigation" dragged on forever, and ended up getting botched. The lesson is obvious: Cheat now, win, and anything that comes after is irrelevant. I'm only half kidding when I say that the Power 5 need to just break off from the scholarship system and form a league, complete with commissioner. Eliminate recruiting, have a draft, level the playing field, pay the players, and be done with it.

Ole Miss cheating?!?!?! I never would of guessed!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again; the person who came up with the phrase, "cheaters never prosper" never heard of the $EC.

Most people rationalize their sin isn't as bad as the other guy's sin, it's what we do....But, we'd also be losing guys to southern schools anyway, cheating or no cheating, it would still happen now because of the times we live in. Just have to find the kids who have no interest in that, which is a tall order I know, but they are out there.

So they were loaning players fancy cars to drive around for free, and they were admitting players who didn't meet academic requirements and lying about entrance scores. They were also most likely giving players some cash here and there.
Smh.

Highly regarded? Maybe a little more than I would realize.. I said a name coach. Or well known. I had to google him. Turns out he is the coach or Michael Oher from Blind Side. Then coached at Lambuth and Arkansas St. While he did well there he never developed into a known big time name coach.

And I dont think we are squeaky. Dont care if we are. To me the occasional $100 handshake is ok and happens. Cars and bidding wars up to 200 grand? Nah. Dont want that.

Then you're a straight up hypocrite if you bitch about any other program cheating....

Not sure I agree with that. I think most people can see the difference between the two and in all honesty, for all I know, it doesn't happen anymore I have no idea, and am kind of curious to be honest. But there is little you can do if a booster shakes your hand and leaves a little something in it. Bidding wars and or cars are on a whole different level.

I really feel that the power 5 conferences should all pay into a fund and that a conference championship, or FCS playoff birth in football and a sweet 16 or final 8 birth in basketball should earn you an automatic NCAA colonoscopy. Minor infractions and you lose a few schollies - major and you get hammered.

If you win big you better have nothing to hide

I just hope this opens the dam door to other SEC teams like Bama and a few others that always seem to hit the crazy high level of top their recruits. There's just to many big name teams out there for just one or a few teams to get most of if not all the guys. And I'm sorry if we are cheating to get our recruits, then we are failing bad at that, big time because we haven't even came close to landing a 5 star recruit of any type since Callahan. I know B Stienkuhler but come on, he lived in Lincoln and his dad was a Husker alumni, Bama could of offered a Shelby GT 500 Mustang and a couple K and he'd still have picked the Huskers.

What I don't ever want to hear from a kid on an SEC team, or a sports talk personality say ever again, is how the current players shouldn't have to be affected. Fact is, if you go to Old Miss, and it is proven that a teamate got a fat stack of cash, you probably knew the kind of deal you were walking into and the kind of coach you committed to. I believe with all my heart players know, for the most part, who pays and cheats and who doesn't. If you choose to align yourself with Old Miss, don't cry when they get hit with a 2 year bowl ban for giving away a car.

Agree completely.

To me its like your wife makes a mistake and is overly friendly with a guy at work and theres a kiss.
Shes not out on thre street right away for that.

She bangs every guy at her workplace? Sounds like the $EC. Whole different level.

Most schools dont follow all the rules to a T.
There are extra calls etc everywhere
So who decides what is major and minor?
There is no way to police or enforce everything
Recruiting is a circus
Its the darkside of college athletics and cannot be fixed
We ve gone too far past reasonable to go back.
I hope it hasnt completely ruined college sports in the next 10 yrs because its coming
What we love about college sports is disappearing fast

Seeing an 18 y/o kid flashing stacks of cash and posting it on Twitter is probably a dead give-a-way. Seeing your star QB rolling in a car nicer than your parents is another. Kids know, oh they know.

Yeah, it's ok for Nebraska to give out thousands of dollars to players via $100 handshakes, but you wanna crucify other programs. Get outta here with that...

According to this article, the violations under Freeze are not very serious and were mostly self-reported, so don't expect any sanctions. I find that hard to believe, but whatever.

I think a lot of problems could be solved if student-athletes were allowed to accept a certain amount of money from endorsement deals and merchandise sales. If they allow Olympic athletes to have sponsors, why not college athletes?

Well lets see it or here it Mr Scary13, how is the Huskers cheating or what recruits did we get that throws the red flag up in your mind? If the Huskers are cheating then we are screwinf that up badly. We aren't getting crap recruits, not even close but we are defiantly not landing or hell even in on the top kids. Closest to the top we get is D Holmes and thats because of Rileys bond with Keshawn Johnson Sr and Jr....i hate to say it, if it wasn't for Johnson Sr and Jr, we wouldn't even get a sniff at Holmes.

Why don't you try reading the entire thread next time before commenting......

Memo
To all member teams:

"If your not winning your not cheating."
Signed,
SEC Administration.

Oh i did, im guessing you was replying to dudes comment about him not minding the 100 dollar hand shakes but the bundles of cash and new cars was to far, am i correct?

Quick updates that might blow some minds:
The SEC (and the entirety of college athletics for that matter) has been known to cheat, and will continue to do so.
The SEC is better than everyone else at football and will remain a tremendous destination for athletes. See the NFL draft every damn year.
SEC schools (and the south/coasts as a whole for that matter) can and likely are more appealing destinations (including Ole Miss) than other schools, regardless of the opinions and/or perceptions of anyone from the North or Midwest.

None of those things are mutually exclusive. Anyone who sits behind a computer and claims that a recruit shouldnt go here or there because of allegations, potential sanctions, or a belief that a University is a dump hasnt been paying attention to major college sports for the last few decades. I mean, holy crap, Waco is a dump of a city and look at Baylor...amiright?
