Here are some quick notes and observations to pass along from Nebraska’s half-pads practice on Tuesday afternoon…
***Both quarterbacks Tommy Armstrong (hamstring) and Ryker Fyfe (wrist) suited up and practiced on Tuesday. It marked the second straight practice for Armstrong, while Fyfe returned to action after sitting out on Monday.
***Armstrong had a wrap on his left hamstring but showed no noticeable limp, while Fyfe wore a soft cast on his left (non-throwing) wrist.
***After two straight practices, Armstrong said he felt good was ready to go. In fact, he said if there were a game today he would be on the field playing.
***Armstrong gave all the credit for his recovery to Nebraska’s training staff, saying he basically lived in the training room the past two weeks. Armstrong said he spent about 6-7 hours a day in the training room and some days he’d eat breakfast, lunch and dinner there.
***Offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf said all three quarterbacks - including Zack Darlington - got a little bit of work in on Tuesday, and admitted it’s been a challenge trying to prepare for a game with potentially three different quarterbacks.
***Kicker Drew Brown and receiver Stanley Morgan, who were both going through concussion protocol following Saturday’s win over Maryland, both practiced in some capacity on Tuesday.
***Linebacker Dedrick Young (ankle) practiced for the second day in a row.
***Two notable players who did sit out with unknown injuries were receiver Alonzo Moore and tight end Sam Cotton.
***Armstrong said during Saturday’s game he pulled aside freshman punter Caleb Lightbourn. He said most people didn’t realize how much pressure Lightbourn was under in that game with all of the memorials to Sam Foltz, and after Lightbourn’s bad first punt Armstrong knew he needed to pick him up. Armstrong told Lightbourn he was his biggest fan and to just go out there and clear his head and play.
***Josh Banderas said looking back he probably would have benefitted greatly from a redshirt his first season at Nebraska. He said there was a point early in his career where football stopped being fun for him, primarily because of injuries and struggling to fully grasp the old defensive scheme. Banderas said when the new staff took over he felt rejuvenated and regained his passion for the game.
***Below are short videos of Armstrong and Fyfe from the early portion of Tuesday's practice...
