I heard talk in the off season hype about each one of these guys from the media. The thought was that they would let the "pups" play a lot in four games to get them experience. Well, that never seems to actually happen. Here's the snap totals in a 45 point win against lowly Fordham.

Jailen Weaver (called "a beast" in fall camp)- one snap
RuQuan Buckley- one snap
Nash Hutmacher (hyped last week for more PT)- only seven snaps
Tyreke "5 star" Johnson- five snaps
Nadab Joseph- four snaps
Henry Lutovsky- one snap
Yant- six snaps
Blaise Gunnerson- five snaps

Did not play- Haarberg, Kpai, Grimes, Neville.

Lots of guys got snaps. Why not these guys? Who knows? But it was nice to see a lot of new faces out there. Something that doesn’t happen much anymore…

Freshmen are the last dogs at the bowl when it comes to garbage time snaps. Not worried about it. They'll get theirs. We're deep at DT especially and we have no idea who is dinged up.

There are reasons for each guy's participation. DL is really deep for us so freshmen aren't going to likely get to play. Johnson is still learning the D. Good that he and Joseph got their feet wet. Johnson will be an upgrade talent wise if we can get him on the field more later. Yant is 6th team it appears. We needed to get Smothers as many snaps as possible to get him ready. Masker deserves to play in a blow out like this at home. He'll probably not get another snap all year. Haarberg is not nearly ready for prime time but if we have as many QB injuries as we had 2 years ago he may have to play his 4 games without burning his redshirt. Not worried.
