There are rumors (now being reported as true) that Tony White is leaving to take the DC position at FSU and taking Terrance Knighton with him.

I base this on nothing concrete, but my gut is that he is leaving. Not a big deal. He was OK.

It's being discussed on the premium board and was mentioned on a podcast. Again, I don't know if the rumors are true. Maybe somebody else has heard something.
FSU seems to be the rumor. Not sure I buy it.
We could certainly end up with someone not as good as White... I hope he stays.

Maybe he’s looking for something with more class, integrity, character, and prestige. Which shouldn’t be hard at all to find…throw a rock type of deal….
Disagreements with Rhule over the defensive scheme according to the rumor I heard. Bringing in Phil Snow to look over his shoulder may be part of it. But who knows.

Our DB’s were the weakest link in our defense by a wide margin. I don’t doubt Rhule would make this decision though

The quality of our defensive back play and Butler’s ability to scheme/call a defense have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

No, I’m saying judging his ability to be a coordinator based on taking over a weak DB room in the middle of camp because their old coach couldn’t keep his pants on is foolish. I have no idea if he’s a good coordinator. But the gnashing of teeth based on the previous logic doesn’t add up
Would be a huge loss. Our defense, though not perfect, has been a huge strength for us.
It’s not just his position’s performance though.
John Butler spent the last 10 years a defensive backs coach in the NFL. Prior to that, he spent ONE season as a defensive coordinator in college.
Nebraska has the budget to hire a tenured, excellent college DC. Why would you give a guy the reigns as DC who only has one year of experience in that position and that one year was over 10 years ago? Secondly, the guy has been in the NFL for the last 10 years, perhaps his position group struggled some because the coach is learning that teaching professionals is different than college kids?
A promotion for Butler doesn’t make sense at all. Go try and get a proven guy first
The way people turned on White this year is crazy.
Weren't they all saying this last year as well? Not sure getting pounced by 50 is going to get you a better contract.
