Tonight changes nothing

Fyfe has brains and an arm, which is an upgrade from the current starter. He just lacks experience. We'd be 8-0 going into tonight's game if Fyfe had started from game 1
I hate to bag on Fyfe, who was clearly thrown into a terrible situation tonight. But Good Lord, what kind of a groupie do you have to be to say that Fyfe is an upgrade over Armstrong and NU would be 8-0 with him as a starter?

how are people saying fyfe is great, has anyone seen his throwing motion, foot work is worse than tommy's
Not to mention that his only career start was a turnoverfest and one of the most embarrassing losses in recent years. Not all Fyfe's fault that day, mind you, but it was still a complete s-- show.

You're right. Tonight changes nothing...we are still a national laughing stock. We will see if it damages recruiting.

Unfortunately, this guy is right. No way we're top 10 or even top 20 in my opinion. Can we be done with the Lockdown U talk now?

Nationally, nobody has cared about NU for 15 years. Everyone was waiting for this to happen---and we just proved them right again. These types of debacles can't be 'written off'--- programs on solid footing with good coaching don't lose games like we have in the past 18 months, and lose 62-3 on national TV. That's what happens to KU, ISU, Rutgers-----I don't have any answers.

By the way, it's awesome that we still have our starters in for absolutely no reason----just asking for a stupid injury.

You are in la la land. The majority of the nation thought we were posers and they were right. To the tune of 62-3 right. Again, national laughingstock for a blueblood.
They can think what they want. We still have a chance to put together a nice season.

Why do you follow a team that you think sucks so much?

Because most of us here are native Nebraskans, alums of the university and care very deeply about the program. I've never understood why people get offended when posts are made critical of the program, I'd like to say I'm a realist and pretty objective. And objectively, this program is still chronically average. And that really pisses me off.

And if we do people will say it was thanks to the schedule and point to this absolute meltdown. Either way...we won't get any respect until we win another championship. We have a long ways to go

I really think it comes down to what you expected of this team before the season and then as the season unfolded as to how you look at this game. I thought 7-5, maybe 8-4 was a realistic goal before the season.. I didn't think there was a chance of beating OSU so getting smoked by them isn't a surprise to me.

I will say a couple things though that upset me. The 4th and 1 call with Fyfe just getting into the game was one of the worst play calls I've ever seen. I would've rather lost 5 yards on a QB sneak than try to run that play, just completely infuriating. There is nothing anyone could say that could convince me otherwise that it was a good idea to throw in that situation knowing the backup QBs history and the offensive line's struggle to do anything productive.

The other thing is how badly the defense got worked tonight. I have expressed skepticism in the past at the Banker hire and I've now lost all faith in winning anything of relevance with him in charge of the defense. Much like i thought Cosgrove was the anchor that would sink Callahan, I feel the same way in regards to Banker. I said I was going to try to avoid being negative or pessimistic until the end of the season but I've just seen enough of Banker's defense to know Nebraska needs better to get back to being champions.

I am disappointed in the performance tonight but glad that Tommy seems to be alright all things considered.

FSU got a 63 laid on them this year. Just saying. It happens.

I stand by my statement. I didnt say he was a great QB.

Tommy has done nothing against ranked teams. If Fyfe had 2 seasons of starting experience invested in him he would be a lot better off. Tommy still plays like a freshman.

So those of us who don't bash coaches and players incessantly don't care about the program? "Caring about the program" should not be license to act like an a$$ all the time towards players and coaches and talk about how much they suck. That isn't "realism" either.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^spot on. Tommy being okay makes tonight okay for me if that makes any sense. Hated to see that happen to him. As many faults as he has he's the leader of our team. Killed me to see him go down like that.

I'm with you on the playcalling and Banker. But don't post about those things too much, you'll get called a hater and not a true fan like all of the sunshine pumpers.

I agree with this team beating pre-season expectations of most people. I disagree about Banker. The defense won games this year we should have lost due to anemic offense. They did OK against Wisconsin, which was lost IMHO by our offense. As far as tonight goes, they have a really good QB who had all night to throw. Until the D-Line is better things like this will happen no matter who the DC is IMHO.

Of course you care, we all care, that's why we are here. But I also don't point out how much of a fairweather fan you are because you have an opinion that is different than mine. These are grown men coaching, and they are paid well for their efforts. My opinion is that their efforts, while appreciated, are not very good. Langsdorf's job is to figure out all the issues we have on the offensive side of the ball; good coaches overcome, poor coaches don't. From what I see, he seems like he isn't a real good problem solver. Do I wish he was? Of course I do, we all do. But the reality is, he isn't, at least not at this point. And that shortcoming is a huge reason why we cannot beat elite teams, even if we are in a position to. That is mind boggling to me, it's his sole purpose to gameplan; but we have no coherent strategy, I have no idea what our offensive identity is - I'm just a schlub at home watching, can you imagine what a good opposing coach probably thinks when matching up against Langs? Checkers vs chess.

So if NU would be a lot better off with Fyfe at QB, can you please give us the long list of Husker losses that would be in the W column if Fyfe was starting?

One more thing. Besides Read, my major problem is Cavanaugh. No reason Decker shouldn't get a shot a center and Wilson a shot at guard. You put guys in who can get the job done, not pick five starters and leave them in even when they are not doing well.

Give it a rest. Has there EVER been an OC that you were happy with? I mean I just get so sick of the constant bashing of he OC whoever it is. It is so easy for you to sit there behind your computer screen and with all your vast offensive gameplanning knowledge and take potshots. It's a little bit different once you get on the field. Year after year after year, it's the same crap. Top 10 offense or no-the OC always gets the most criticism. I just get so absolutely sick and tired of the same routine from people like you.

Fine, no problem with that. Ignore me, I do to lots of people. I also get tired of people who make excuses for people who's job (well paid, at that) to solve these issues that come up every d@mn year. Coaching is one big competition, a chess match, and honestly Danny has a lot more pieces than most. Every coach in the biz has obstacles and adversity to overcome, the good ones find ways to do it. My opinion is Langsdorf doesn't have that quality at this point. Feel free to disagree, just try not to be such a dbag about it. Or don't, I don't care really.

Fair enough. My counter argument would be are we sure that Nebraska's even played more than 2 good offensive teams?

Scoring offenses as of 11:11 p.m. (dunno when most recently updated)
Fresno - 120th
Wyoming - 37th
Oregon - 16th
Northwestern - 89th
Illinois - 108th
Indiana - 83rd
Purdue - 88th
Wisconsin - 95th
Ohio State - 10th

In my opinion, that's a whole lot of bad offenses that are hiding how good or bad this defense actually is. I don't think they're as bad as this game tonight but I do think if they had played higher quality offensive competition to this point that the opinion on this defense would be significantly different. We can agree to disagree though, thank you for the respectful response.
