"148.96: Armstrong’s quarterback rating in the fourth quarters this season, which ranks second in the Big Ten — behind Beathard — among regular league quarterbacks. Armstrong has thrown six touchdowns in the fourth quarter — zero interceptions — and run for four touchdowns in that quarter, as well. You might say that’s when the man shines." He is ranked #12 in the NCAA for 4th quarter quarterbacks. http://www.omaha.com...d797a3bf4e.html

Nebraska ranks #1 in the NCAA in team scoring in the 4th quarter with 12.8. They have averaged 19.0 the last three games, and 17.2 on the road.

I thought he always choked in crunch time.

I don't think anyone ever said the offense was the culprit

Many have blamed TA.
People were talking about how Fife gives us a better chance to win in this offense...
Then they quit talking about it.
I'm not blaming TA for our woes, but some of his decisions have left me scratching my head & headed to the toilet.

Those are amazing 4th quarter numbers. Seems like at that point Tommy is just playing, not thinking but that's when he's at his best.

Well, it was nice to be excited about our team that late in the game. I will apologize to no one for enjoying the game and, consequently, the victory. TA was da man!

If he could just get those ridiculous throws out of his game. Even I'm like, "I can't defend that."

My favorite player to watch in college football.

The look on his face before the last drive seemed to indicate going 91 yards with 55 seconds left in front of 90,000 people was no more concerning than going for an ice cream. Other times in games he seems to lapse because he is nervous. Some of the gaffs he does has me head-slapping so bad I should get checked for a concussion, but the man is a warrior and becoming one of my all-time favorites.

Love TA also but the Miami INT in OT and his INT in the MSU game and the INT that should have been before the game winning TD leaves me to believe he does make some bone headed throws. That being said he is a gamer...just would like him cut down on the really bad decisions that sometimes haunt him...

Hopefully any psychological effects these kids have had are severely limited with beating Michigan State. The ball didn't bounce our way all through the game which allowed us to be in it and Michigan State didn't screw up all game to lose it. They beat one of the best teams they'll get to play..

Those two teams went toe to toe with each other out on the football field, both made some stupid mistakes and both made plays.

great player and athlete but he is a head case at times and it's cost us a couple of games. If he would eliminate the bonehead decisions and reverting to throwing off his back foot we'll have a chance to win out. Assuming the defense steps up.

He needs to eliminate the occasional throwing the ball up for grabs.

But if he does we need a little luck and a DB with hands of stone.

He does that more than just "occasionally". When the MSU defender looked like he was going to intercept that ball the play before the TD, nobody reading this would have been surprised and I wonder how many were thinking it was going to happen based on his history? He had already tossed 2 of them that night. He isn't a great QB, but that doesn't mean he isn't the best one on our roster so I get why he's playing. I also don't think to many people have said Ryker is better, I wonder if somebody is making that up? I have never read that anywhere. Also, If people choose to focus more on the last 25% of a game than the first 75% that's fine, but that's a great example of how you have to get pretty creative with the numbers to make them look like he's anything more than an average to a below average QB. He is what he is at this point, not great, not horrible, but he's the best we have and he's our QB so we'll all support him and hope for some more improvement going forward. But to prop him up as a better QB than he is using creative numbers is akin to that guy on every finance MB who is defending that stock that keeps losing value over the years, but is convinced he's right about it being a great investment no matter the evidence in front of him.

You came in this thread just to post this crap. What a crap post.

Why don't you open your eyes and read a thread. There have been plenty of threads stating Fyfe was a better option.

Yes the Big 10 named him Offensive Player of the Week twice because they wanted to prop him up

I guess you could have taken your sorry ass out there and won the game for us.

Connor Cook made some of the worst decisions you can make Saturday and I bet you were drooling how pretty his balls looked.

It was the NFL QB that look liked a 7th grader and through the ball out of bounce.

Tommy Armstrong was named Big 10 Offensive player of the week cause he sucks. He has the most 300 Total Yards Offense game in the history of this program. Anybody can do that.

You said a lot of things I never said and went ahead and got mad about them even. Weird. I am well aware that wasn't going to be a popular post with you, I'm OK with that. Just giving my honest opinion, the same way you gave yours.

You're a consistent fella, I'm gonna give ya props for that!!

It's not that "those throws" don't drive me mad. They do. It's just that leadership factor that TA has. He always believes in himself until the end. Whether he can be coached into an even better QB is something we all wonder. He's already better than last year. I do think that TA was more than the 4th quarter vs Michigan State. A lot more.

I think TA will be damn good next year with more time with Langsdorf and the O line improving. Hes got a hell of a want to win which is exactly what we need next year to get over that hump.. GBR!!

Think back on that picture with Favre and TA a few years back. Man, how similar those two are in their game is almost mirror like.

Tommy's ability to shine in the 4th quarter illustrates the talent of the receivers as well. And it also sheds a glimpse into why Langsdorf feels compelled to throw the football more than he may need to in certain situations.

If we start the game pretending we are down 21 and then maybe we will come out and start electric. Our offense seems to really click when we need to score points and do a hurry up. Then when we slow down we arent as efficient and electric. I understand why we cant do this all the time because our defense would be very tired and lets just say the less they are on the field the better.

I agree, his decision making at times drives us crazy but say what you want.....he is tough as nails, and not just physically.....what he's been through and pressure and still perform as he's done in the 4th quarter shows incredible mental toughness. Hats off to him.....line play and protection has been suspect all year and he still keeps us in the game. Got to take the good with the bad with him.
