1914 - Babe Ruth hit his first home run as a professional player in the International League.
1918 - Due to World War I, the World Series begins one month early between the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs.
1922 - The New York Yankees play their final game at the Polo Grounds.
1923 - Flyweight boxers Gene LaRue and Kid Pancho knock each other out simultaneously.
1927 - The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 12-11 in 18 innings.
1936 - The Boston Red Sox turn a triple play on the New York Yankees.
