up after this past weekend. Hopefully the team doesn't give up.
He wasn't saying for him to be fired. Not yet. As frustrating as it has been, and as annoying as his shtick has become, we need to gut it out for at least one more season after this one - probably two.
I suppose it wouldn't look as bad if years 2 and 3 were reversed. Perhaps then we would be more accepting of a young team that is simply over-matched most nights coming off a year that represented a team making consistent progress. Instead, year 3 was quire alarming in the drop-off from year 2. Now year 4 looks like we hit the "reset" button. I'm certain this is not what we had in mind after building state-of-the-art facilities a few years back.
The program needs stability and continuity, so flushing even a struggling coach in his 4th year is not prudent. A lot of this is on Miles, himself. His program has seen a lot of roster shuffling, with transfers in and out, that you can't assume all of the young players seeing minutes this year will be back next year. But no doubt, he needs to get his act together - figure out how to get players in here that can complete in this league - and get this team to the NCAA tournament pretty quickly, or it's back to the mid-majors for him.
Maybe not now. But two years from now? Yes, he's fair game. The expectation of at the very least having a solid team/program is not outlandish. Losing 11 conference games in a row and counting is not going to cut it for a man whose getting paid 2 million a year.Should not even be discussed. People need to realize Nebraska is one of the worst Power 5 college basketball jobs in the country when it comes to winning, getting to the tournament, sustained on the court support and fan support.
We have a new arena and a new practice facility but that's it. Miles needs to change a few things, but a big missing piece is Craig Smith. He hasn't been able to replace him.
I agree in two years if nothing has changed these discussions can happen. But not now.Maybe not now. But two years from now? Yes, he's fair game. I know it's the wrong thread but why isn't Riley given the same slack as Miles. Riley didn't even get bran new facilities build like Miles. Although we already have great ones.not a big deal and not everyone feels this way. But I think all coaches deserve some time to make it right. I agree. Every coach deserves three years unless it's a massive train wreck (aka Turner Gill at KU, they never should have hired him.)I know it's the wrong thread but why isn't Riley given the same slack as Miles. I think Kansas should just cut football at this pointI agree. Every coach deserves three years unless it's a massive train wreck (aka Turner Gill at KU, they never should have hired him.)

Because the trophy cases for our football and basketball programs are miles apart. Our football program is a "blue-blood", while our basketball program is the basketball equivalent of Iowa State Football (they also have brand-new facilities). Miles also didn't inherit a program that had won 70% of its games over the last 7 years - he inherited a 12-18 team that finished 11th out of 12 in the Big Ten, and had us in the Big Dance two years later.
I'm not saying Miles is the answer, but Barry and Doc both got 6 years. Miles deserves just as much time, maybe even a little more because of that run in 2014. I also believe that Riley deserves a few more years, as long as he does not have another losing season. Multiple losing seasons at a blue-blood program should be unacceptable, unless you are on probation or something.
Bottom line, if you look at "blue-blood" programs - they are almost always turned around in the first couple of years. It's rare for a coach to come into a program like this, suck for the first few years, and then later win championships. If you look at Stoops, Saban, Urban, Carroll, Brian Kelly, etc. - they all made their programs relevant again within 2-3 years.
Well I agree that this team has disappointed me a bit as well. I think we need to see how the year progresses, before we start saying he needs to be fired. If he goes 2-14 in the league or worse you may get your wish.up after this past weekend. Hopefully the team doesn't give up.
