Thursday: Nebraska vs. Cal Poly (Huskers win 3-2)

Top 1st

Altavilla with a leadoff single through the right side. Meyers grounds Altavilla out at SS but is safe on the FC. Schreiber singles to RF and puts runners on the corners. Failed pickoff attempt (E1) allows Meyers to score and Schreiber to get to 2nd on the overthrow! Miller flies out to RF but Schreiber tags up and heads to 3rd. A WP scores Schreiber from 3rd! Alvarado Ks.

Bottom 1st

Jake Hohensee on the mound for Nebraska as he starts it out with a nice 1-2-3 inning

Bottom 2nd

Leadoff HBP for Poly. Popup to 2nd for out #1. A single past 2nd puts runners on the corners. Next batter K's but a WP moves the runner to 2nd but the runner does stay at 3rd. Walk loads the bases. Groundout to 1st ends the threat.

The PxP guy on the BigWest stream keeps mispronouncing Hohensee's name as "Ho-EN-see" and "Ho-EN-a-see".

Edit: Nonetheless grateful for the free stream, just obnoxious.

Sadly enough he is 10 times better than the two Yahoos they had for the CSUB game on Tuesday.
Fully agree, at least wrt the PxP guy the other night. Seemed like he was a first timer (and alluded to it a couple times). The color guy sounded okay but was willing to let the PxP guy do his thing.

Schlepp walks with two outs. Poly's pitcher had retired 13 in a row up until that point. Cronenbold flies out to RF to end the frame.

One out Infield single to SS for Meyers. Schreiber flies out to RF. Meyers steals 2nd. Miller with an RBI double to right center field!!! Alvarado Ks to end the inning

Top 7th

Poly goes to the bullpen to relieve their starter and he delivers a 1-2-3 inning

Bottom 7th

2 out single past 2nd for Poly. Jake McSteen now in to relieve Hohensee. The next batter singles to RF to put runners on the corners. RBI single to RF, runners on 1st and 2nd. WP advances the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Chopping RBI infield single to 3rd puts runners on the corners. Another pitching change for Nebraska as Robbie Palkert enters the game. I can't imagine Erstad wants what happened the other night when they decided not to pull a struggling pitcher. What is interesting is Erstad came out to pull the pitcher instead of Silva. Groundout to Palkert to end the inning.

Cronenbold with a leadoff walk and Altavilla moves him to 2nd on the SAC Bunt. Meyers walks. Schreiber Ks on what looked like an obvious ball. Poly then makes a call to the bullpen. Miller Ks.

Bottom 8th

2 out single up the middle for Poly. Palkert does strike out the side to end the inning.

Really thought for a while we were going to blow another one. Needed this one to get the bad taste out of their mouths from Tuesday.

It was nice seeing Erstad not waste anytime and pulling McSteen. Seems like they tend to leave them in but they have so many options so might as well just yank a guy if he shows his stuff isn't there that night.

I like how the pitching staff is coming together...the top three + Waldrop in midweek games should set us up nicely. But, is this possibly the worst Husker offense since the turn of the century?

Good win. We beat one of the country's best pitchers and we did it the right way. Jumped on him early, took advantage of their mistakes and pitched well enough to hang on to the win. Good game.
