Been awhile since I've posted on here due to college graduation and my much-needed recovery period. Here are some thoughts on some Husker Targets.
Quayshon Alexander: framewise he reminds me of a young Vic Beasley. Great pursuit speed and burst once he disengages from his opposing blocker. really impressive footwork and foot agility for a defensive linemen, never seems uncomfortable in space, can shift between DL and LB effortlessly. Polished pass rushing skillset, plays with just the right amount of assholism for a linebacker. Has a tendency to play to high, but has gotten away with it so far because HS offensive linemen cant seem to get a clean shot at him. Has the size to play weakside linebacker right now, but I would like to see him bulk up and become a true DE/OLB hybrid like how Vic Beasley was used at Clemson. Would be a great addition for Nebraska not only because he has got great talent, but he helps re-establish our routes in the new jersey recruiting area.
CJ Riley: Big Wide Receiver with extremely long arms. Has fantastic timing and instincts when going up for contested passes, skill that could get hi on the field early. While not a burner, he has solid speed that helps him separate from defenders on deep routes. Confident and just a little bit cocky player who plays with a chip on his shoulder (so a typical Florida recruit). Very raw in terms of his route running and release off the line of scrimmage. Only comfortable running vertical routes and flare screens at this point. Could use a bit more short area quickness to help him be more effective in the short to intermediate pass game. Bit of a project, but could develop into a chain mover between the 20s and a big time red zone threat.
Devwah Whaley: Reminds me so much of former Indiana running back Tevin Coleman. Runs with high knees and has absolutely Fantastic footwork and foot quickness, best of any running back I've looked at this recruiting cycle. Shows very good patience and vision as he waits for plays to develop, doesn't automatically bail on plays and bounce outside like most high school running backs. Violent runner who attacks defenders instead of waiting to receive the blow; definitely one of those "chip on the shoulder" type guys. My favorite thing about Whaley is that he is one of those backs that can turn a broken play that should be a 5 yard loss into a 6 yard gain. Would like to see him add some weight (only 190 right now) and also play with a bit lower pad level. Haven't gotten a chance to see him in the pass game, but he has all the athletic tools to be a true all-purpose back at the collegiate level. Might have overtaken AJ Taylor as my favorite running back recruit this year (I change my mind every 5 minutes)
