Thoughts and Expectations if you were the AD.

So here we are half way through the season and obviously it is the not the start everyone wanted. Given our present situation and if you care to share your thoughts, I would like to know what you as a fan would consider this season as a success AND how much time Riley should be given to turn this around if you were AD.

Personally, I would say just getting to a bowl game would be a success this season. I say this not in a way that I as a longtime fan have accepted mediocrity but that so much has happened to our program since 2001 that this must be what fans felt like prior to Devaney arriving. I do not feel we have been relevant since Colorado destroyed us in Boulder back in 2001. It remains to be seen what legacy HC Riley will have here.

I would hate to see NU become a revolving door program but feel Riley should be given 4 years here. I have to learn to temper my expectations of Championships or being in the hunt for one each year and it is hard considering our past. Again, we have not been relevant since 2001 and that aura our Football team had is gone. Opposing teams used to say how physically beat up they'd be after playing Nebraska. Now they say it's JUST Nebraska we played and beat. Also, we have really become a sloppy team with really poor fundamentals. In these four years my expectation would be to see to see Nebraska get back to playing smart, physical football. I would like to see each year trending upward with consistent improving records instead of a wide range of up and down years in that period.

Despite our losses I am pleased to see that we were in pretty much every game instead of the embarrassing blowouts of the Pelini era. These are my thoughts. Thanks! GBR!

Lets face it, the season is in the tank already. We are 2 -4 and might be favored in 2 of our remaining games.

Riles took a 9 win team and made them a 5 win team if that. We should have had 5 wins already. I think we're stuck with him for 4 years. Next year's schedule is tougher. We might be lucky to win 6 and get a Bowl invitation with this adult and professional staff.

If I were the AD, I'd be expecting hate mail, flat tires, broken windows, and a flaming paper bag of dog poo on his front porch based on how some feel about him.

Oh for the record, i don't condone such behavior.

If I were the AD I'd fire myself. But before that I'd suggest hand the reigns to Trev Alberts if the case presents itself.

I'll be serious (though the goals may seem ludicrous). Our present situation? I'll frame our present situation, since you chose not to frame it. We fired a 9-win coach that had a bad, volatile personality. We hired a new coach to take this same 9-win program and see immediate, positive results.

Success: Win out convincingly in each of the remaining games (except MSU). Convincingly is somewhat nebulous, so win by more than 10 points in each of those 5 games. Play MSU competitively, with no WTF coaching calls. That would provide a "no argument" transition year success, at least by my reckoning.

Time to give Riley: If I'm the AD, that would be until I get fired or 4 years, whichever comes first. 3 years if we don't even sniff a bowl game.

I'm an outsider, and would certainly be disappointed if my team were 2-4, but still I think MR deserves a chance to get it going. Nebraska isn't failing to be competitive, and the chances of ALL Four of those games resulting in losses is minuscule.

The only really bad loss is Illinois, and it's a road B1G game, so it can happen from time to time. So sure, this season isn't going to be what you wanted it to be, but there's no reason to think Nebraska can't compete/win every game in front of it.

If Nebraska were not competitive in these losses, that would be a different conversation, but they really should have won at least 2 of the four, and easily could have also beaten Wisconsin and Miami. I'd give it a chance to work.

Eichorst is going to wait until Alvarez retires and then got back to Wisconsin as AD.
Maybe. But there is only 1 school he would leave for right now, given the chance. And it is not Wisky, maybe that changes if it comes open. I know this is far fetched for the idiot-brigade conspiracy theorists to understand, but he respects and wants the Huskers to succeed (not just in football). But Husker fans need their pound of flesh after 6 games. Sadly the book "More than Winning" has been forgotten around here, because of the hurt feelings of the fans, and the fact that its author was beaten to the punch and could no longer cover for the clown show.

An outsider gets it, pay attention morons.

Nice post thewop, what team are you a fan of?

He's a bigger mistake than we made with Callahan.

You would turn on Trev, Frost or anyone else that comes in here and doesn't start off fast. I hope they never come because you would turn a dime on them in a HEARTBEAT. But go ahead keep rolling the dice.

He's a bigger mistake than we made with Callahan.

Can you elaborate on that? Through 6 games we were 4-2 in 2004 with a win over an fcs team, 2 teams with 4 or less wins, and 1 decent win over a Pitt team that finished 8-4. Mixed in there was a 70-10 beat down by Texas Tech and a loss to a 7-5 southern miss team.

Did Cally inherit 10-3 talent or does that argument only apply to Riley? Yes the records are different, but they need to be put into context.
