If NU promoted a guy with his resume we’d want Rhule’s head on a pike. But hey, they’ll somehow score 30+ on us and he’ll look like the second coming of Bill Walsh. Then he’ll totally suck in every game after playing us and get fired and/or not retained.
Seems like he's slightly more qualified than me to call plays, but it's close. Personally I'd just call hail mary's every down.
I just thought everyone would wanna know who's calling the plays as Fickell was being very tight lipped and got defensive when he reporters asked him during their press conference. So I went to their board to see if anything was posted and found it!

I'm convinced that there are high school coaches that can coach circles around the lower tier of college OCs. It's all about career path. Some of these college assistants think that they are hot sh*t, but if you want to really prove yourself go to the HS level where you don't pick your players (at most places) and you coach your ass off. I know guys who have made the move in either direction as college assistant & HS head coach. College is easier.
Now, good luck finding the right HS coach, but they are out there.
The other thing about HS vs. college is the absolute grind that college is. It is a brutal year round schedule and, at the lower levels, is for very little pay. Sometimes you are basically volunteering at the start. That's incredibly difficult to have a life outside of work, start a family, etc. and some people don't want that. HS is a relatively easy life comparatively, more pay at the start (obviously not as much at the high levels....but very few people get there) and a predictable schedule. To be a college coach at a high level, you have to dedicate your entire life to it and sacrifice many other things. It takes a very understanding partner, or going it alone, to navigate that.
Yep.. Maybe things have changed a little bit as well, but a lot of HS coaches are idiots. When you are in the small town environment you get a lot of guys who were awful in HS or full on didn't play but then act like they are hot shit as well. My hometown had a coach who blew probably one of the best rosters ever because of how much of an idiot he was. Had multiple Huskers on the team a long with some kids that went to Pitt St in KS and some other schools.
Not surprised, both looked in bad shape when they left the game.
