This young staff- especially Coach Held- leaves NO STONE UNTURNED
and works FAST< FAST< FAST

Read this story about the OL player from Kansas
Held hears about him on Twitter for the first time and within HOURS visits him FACE TO FACE
http://journalstar.com/sports/huske...cle_7d4bb534-bb8d-5982-9bbf-32d019f390da.html

“I just texted him back and said, ‘I’m going to get a hold of the Nebraska coaches,’” Stroh told the Journal Star on Thursday. “If an SEC offer comes, let’s see what happens.”
He sent a long direct message to Held on Twitter at about 11:30 a.m. and went back to teaching his class.
Five minutes later, his phone rang. He told his class to hold tight, because this was probably important. It was Held.
“He said, ‘Coach, hey, this is Coach Held. How far is Olathe from Lawrence?'” Stroh recalled. “I said, ‘You’re about 45 minutes away.’ He said, ‘All right, I’ll see you at 12:45.’"
By 8:30 p.m., Nebraska had offered Robinson"

So within 5 minutes of getting a tweet from someone- Held is on the phone to the coach and less than 2 hours from when first hearing about this player- Held is visiting him FACE TO FACE and less than 9 hours from hearing about him for the first time- the kid has an offer on the table.

IMPRESSIVE- Wish our last staff had worked that fast on someone like maybe Williams in Lincoln. This isnt rocket science, you watch film, talk to his coach and a few teachers, check his grades and make an offer. Doesnt need to take weeks or months and trying to work around the schedules of taking your wife to a baseball game etc Love the sense of urgency and aggressiveness from this coaching staff.

Thank goodness Olathe is only 45 minutes away and luckily Coach was in Olathe when he made that call or else there would t be much of a need for a story. Lol. Somewhat tongue in cheek. I love the effort and enthusiasm Held has for recruiting but much of this story seems a little choreographed.

I am really excited about the potential for next season's recruiting class with the amount this staff has achieved in 2 months. Just been incredible to see the work they've put in.

These coaches are ballers. They seem to be tireless. What they are doing is really impressive and the hard work will pay off. Players can feel that energy and it will pour out on the field as well. Look at the energy (or lack there of) this year. Our players played without fire and energy. Those days are long gone and there is a new sheriff in town. Im chugging the Kool-aid!

You just can't help but bring Riley into almost every single one of your posts.

Left this important nugget out;

"The reality is also that NU’s new coaching staff might not have been as receptive had it already landed four-star Jarrett Bell (Norco, California) or if it had more time to recruit others."

So of course they're working fast right now as the deadline is approaching and they need to fill the class. It's not a knock on Frost & Co, but they most likely won't work this fast on a player like Robinson after this year.

The funny part is, that staff put in twice the effort as Blo's. Someone should have had Held help Blo, since he is recruiting out of his car!

If I were petty and looking for ways to piss people off. I would ask the question, If Mike Riley had missed out on Jarret Bell and Mike Cavanaugh had acted quickly to line up a meeting with an OT whose sole offer, at the time of the call, was a gray shirt offer from Iowa St, would there have been an article written? Would the thread discussing the recruiting of an unranked OT from Kansas be seen in such a positive light?

But since I am not petty and not really looking for a fight, I won’t ask those questions.

You already have...

You go talk to the best fits possible, if the kid or the team moves on, then so be it. With the former coaches, they didn't push as hard as this staff, from all that has been seen so far. Excited to see the full cycle of recruitment will bring.

Cav already did t hose types of things....look at the guy that only weighed 235 pounds that he offered out of California.

The new staff would have been after other guys with a full cycle and 80% of all prospects not already signed with a school.

Held loves to recruit and he will continue to do an amazing job.

Let it go. No one cares.

Were they not working fast when within 24 hours of being hired they already had over a dozen offers out?
Were they not working fast- when they practiced at CFU- flew to Cali to tie up Martinez on the same day, flew back to UCF over night to make morning practice then that same night flew to Lincoln to host a walk on thing?

Seems pretty fast and aggressive to me
Nothing the low energy previous staff would have done

These guys have a TRACK RECORD of working fast all the time
Wish everyone would just get on board or get out of the way- these guys dont mess around, they lead by example with their effort. The kids will definitely get this, respect it, embrace it and copy it. .

IMO it's a fair question.

If Riley had done this in his first recruiting class then he would likely get a positive spin. If it's in a second or third class then it's not so positive because they should have known who this guy is long before the final push.

Relative to this class it's a positive that they are truly interested in the 500 mile radius thing. Same with all the Nebraska High Schools and Iowa Western.

Did I state Frost & Co had low energy when it came to recruiting? No, I've always said they've been very impressive.

But to say, "Wish our last staff had worked that fast on someone like maybe Williams in Lincoln." doesn't make any sense as they (Riley) did when they first got to Nebraska. Maybe not to the extreme of Frost, but Riley & Co were far from low energy when they first got here to complete the 2015 class.

Frost & Co working fast with high energy doesn't change the fact that if given a full season to recruit, they wouldn't have made a move this fast on a guy like Robinson. So why is it even impressive now when it wouldn't be given a full season?

Nothing the low energy previous staff would have done
WTH do you think Riley & Co did recruiting wise for the 2015 class when they were hired in December? They came in with high recruiting energy and really kept that energy up until it was inevitable that they weren't going to be retained.

Are you saying their energy was low when it came to recruiting when they first got to Nebraska?

Of course we'd be reading a new thread from davecisar telling us all how impressive Riley & Co were by acting so quickly on a recruit.

Or would it be a new thread from davecisar telling us how pathetic Riley & Co were by missing out on a good OL prospect and trying to just fill the class with a low rated prospect?

The answer to your question is no, or not likely. There is a difference, however. Riley had a 2+ decade-long track record of losing, to boot. Don’t know why people continually need to be reminded of this.

I love the work the staff is doing, but all of those particular prospects involved may fit an unfavorable recruit type that has been criticized in the past. Is Bell the reluctant out of state recruit who had other "dream schools" and picks NU as a consolation prize? If he works as hard as advertised, it won't matter where he goes. But we've been burned in the past by players who get here and don't work hard or care as much as everyone else. Then there's the late offer plan B or C guys who aren't as talented or just need more time. We've had guys like that take up roster spots for five years without playing. I'm not against taking a plan B guy or two unless they have character/work ethic issues like the ones Bo Pelini brought in.

Given Frosts impressive (albeit short) track record I would give him the benefit of the doubt regarding perceived reaches.

Seeing this staff in action has made me think about Pelini a bit. Recruiting always seemed like some chore to be endured. Poor results were blamed on shortcomings inherent to NU. It got to the point where most fans believed it. Its great to see a staff that makes no excuses and gets the job done.

Yep! Riley was like the guy in the sitcom that always slipped on the banana peel. It is funny and new at first but after awhile you know what to expect

I'm amazed at how simple it is in some people's mind. Everything Riley did = bad, inept, lame. Everything Frost does = brilliant. I'm thrilled that Frost is our coach and I do believe he's killing it but people need to take a step back and realize there are going to be a few mistakes along the way.

It is simple...that is the thing we have to remember. This is not rocket surgery or brain science.

Well- let's look at the facts- results
Nebraska finished 31st in Recruiting in Rileys first year
Riley was recruiting to a team that had won 9/10 games for 7 consecutive seasons. The opinion of most was NU just needed a few "tweaks" , clean up the turnovers and mistakes and that would nudge us to 11-12-13 wins. Riley wasnt splitting time between teams- his team won 4 games and didn't make any bowl game

Frost OTOH looks like his team is finishing about 20th, 20th is much better than 31st
He was splitting duties
Was recruiting to a 4 win team that had 2 losing seasons in last 3 and the 4 wins were not impressive and against weak competition. Pretty tall order.

Frost and Co led their conference in Recruiting Rankings- they embrace recruiting. We are seeing the entire staff in these kids homes, guys like Held seemingly everywhere all over the country. Frost flying coast to coast and back then on another flight to the midwest the next day sandwiched between 2 practices?? AND beat AUBURN. Does ANYONE who is honest with themselves really think this staff hasnt outworked and run circles around Riley?

The press LOVED Riley and many were firmly behind Riley
I guarantee that if Riley was actually burning the midnight oil, like these guys are- we would have heard about it. Dirk and Shatel wouldnt write those stories?? This is a program desperate for wanting to believe- with Riley we lied to ourselves about wanting to think he could succeed- with Frost we dont.

Ive done both Business and Football consulting. The interesting thing about failing businesses and teams- most of them dont work very hard, but they think they are. Until someone sees what is really possible- they just dont know. They are shocked really. After doing the first 10- I figured out they pretty much had very similar patterns and excuses- quite predictable really.

No one ever said everything Frost did/does is brilliant.

The problem I have is people finding every commonality between Frost and Riley, then asking, “why isn’t Frost being ridiculed for liking Chinese food, too?”

Riley was, is, and will forever be a bad head coach. That we know. To compare Riley and Frost is laughable. Apples and wolverines.

I have to go back to the fact that Riley, prior to arriving at Nebraska, boasted a shitty W-L%, a shitty record of recruiting, and was a lethargic presence on the sidelines. He continued that once at Nebraska. He even brought his same, shitty (used to losing) assistants with him.

Frost may be a newbie in the HC ranks, but at least he has potential. If another analogy is necessary, Nebraska hiring Riley is akin to the Chicago Bears hoping Cutler finally has a good season and stops failing every year.

Man, we need a thumbs down button on here!

Riley & Co. have, do, and will continue to suck until they retire, somehow with lots and lots of money.

I’ve said it before, but if I were as bad at my job as Riley and staff has been for decades, and I were a millionaire, I’d be very confused.

Frost also has accomplished more in 730 days are UCF than Riley has in 20+ years of coaching experience and was the number 1 coach on almost every AD’s list looking for a new head coach, including Florida.

I think it’s ok to be a little optimistic and spin what he does in a better light than the guy who went 4-8.

Don’t forget 5-7. Statistically, Riley was somehow worse than Callahan. Yikes.
