I just have to be thankful as a sports fan that Nebraska was able to pull off this hire even after letting go of a native son and with all the negative energy around the program the last 8-10 years. Rhule considered not coaching at all but was so moved by what the Big Red offers that he decided to jump back into coaching. Rhule could have taken the Auburn or Wisconsin jobs - he was the #1 candidate on the list of both ADs according to some things I've read - but put Nebraska ahead of those schools in his mind - schools that have won a lot more games than NU the last 10 years. Again, a sign that the NU brand is still a BLUE-BLOOD worthy one.
Now we are making staff hires to reflect this change in status - when Frost was not able to hire anyone of significance in his entire time at NU.
Rhule seems fully pumped and of the belief he can get us playing toe to toe with Michigan and Ohio State, and I tend to believe him.
We have a huge advantage to use with NIL and the transfer portal, and I think those are weapons a coach like Rhule will be just deadly with, given his history in turning around even the most sunken of ships.
Feels dang good.
