This is stupid. Go SEC

they are so toothless that we have yet to see any university dip their toe in those waters and when the NCAA penalizes a school - the school generally complies

in lieu of the bowl game why didn't Nebraska just decide -- "you know what - those NCAA guidelines are toothless - we are going to hold practices this December" -- what the hell is Frost doing by not holding these practices - the program is falling further and further behind those teams that are actually able to manage 6 wins and a bowl.

and I would hope the NCAA, in this day and age, is environmentally conscious enough to distribute their guidelines electronically rather than by print on paper
ha, please. the ncaa penalizing a school? how quaint. of course they comply. you'd pay plenty of $1.00 speeding tickets, too.

the ncaa is the good old boys' club that's let its fairways overgrow and its greens burn up.

they bend over backwards to the conferences on a nearly annual basis to appease whoever they can in order to justify their position.

just like cancelling games due to covid, if one conference decides to abandon that sinking ship, the others would follow within the hour.

state legislature, similar to today, could play a big part in speeding it up.

I see you stewed over that response post for 2 hours between editing it. you surely could've made it close to TX in response to their SOS to assist your fellow citizen in that time. sad.

So with the Pac 12 and big 10 going conference season only eventually the sec will have conference only out of lack of opponents. The fcs schools can't afford to test their athletes so that elimantes them too. Eligibility will be a mess when this all shakes out
also, what does this say about the rose bowl this year?

Which doctors? Guessing you only listen to some.

We should have done what Sweden did. They left there country open, now they are going to be at zero deaths a day. Remember when it used to be about flattening the curve to help hospitals? Now it's about the number of cases no matter how many people are asymptomatic.
Bingo

Short of a vaccine materializing in November or December, what is better about playing in the spring vs the fall?
No guarantee of course, but having a vaccine by then is exactly the reason why Spring would be viewed as better. The vast majority of reports I've read indicate more than one vaccine is on track to be ready for mass rollout by early next year.

Not sure why you think something other than having an effective vaccine available would be needed as a reason for moving to Spring?

Oh so you prefer socialism and Alzheimer joe
I think the socialism reached a tipping point when the Republican president and Republican Senate started handing out checks to millions of people who didn't really deserve them. Like me. And the ultra conservative Republican president has been on record as saying he wants bigger checks this time then what the house passed. Who's the socialist again?

SEC isn't going to save anyone it appears.

Sankey said his concern about the plausibility of having a 2020 football season is, “high to very high.”

“We put a medical advisory group together in early April with the question, ‘What do we have to do to get back to activity?’ And they've been a big part of the conversation,” Sankey said on the show, as transcribed by ESPN. “But the direct reality is not good and the notion that we’ve politicized medical guidance of distancing, and breathing masks, and hand sanitization, ventilation of being outside, being careful where you are in buildings. There’s some very clear advice about — you can’t mitigate and eliminate every risk, but how do you minimize the risk? ...We are running out of time to correct and get things right, and as a society we owe it to each other to be as healthy as we can be.”

"Yep...that’s exactly what I said...and have been saying," Sankey tweeted. "I want to provide the opportunity for college athletics to be part of the fall, but we need to all consider our behavior to make possible what right now appears very difficult. 'The direct reality is not good.'"

Have had over 2,000 positives both of the last two days in Louisiana. Two of the three highest numbers for a 24 period since this thing started. Governor mandated masks today - when you go out to business establishments. Still trying to stay in phase two, kinda. Pretty much closed down all bars.

So I’m thinking the SEC isn’t looking quite as good (for this fall) as everybody seems to think.

Im ok with conferance only games for now, to help them focus on how to do it right...if it looks good at the start of the season, we could add a few south dakota state type teams...

I dont think those schools are testing their athletes

This is mindless overreaction. Nebraska has like a .01 death rate all ages, and that doesn't include all the people who have had/have covid and never got tested. I realize other states are higher but not much higher. I cant believe how much people have bought this madness and are allowing it to essentially end our lives and crush our economy in ways we might find shocking.

It also makes no sense. Iowa not playing Iowa state, as one example. Wtf?

The SEC meets Monday and there’s some rumors they are talking with Big 12 to fill some non conference games. I hope this is true and I hope the SEC/Big 12 drag their nuts across the B1Gs face yet again.

If this happens, only the conferences that play out of conference schedule should be considered for any playoff/NC. I dont care if its the SEC only and they only play sun belt/1AA schools OOC.

They made a mistake but they better not make it worse by cancelling the season, at least not with how things stand now regarding death rates.

TLDR/end rant.
We live in a cancel culture. Football is no different. It has become the norm to shut anything and everything down 100% at the least bit of danger or hurt feelings.

I just saw a couple posts from reporters saying SEC was upset about how this will bring more heat on them. They seemed to want the B1G to wait a bit longer before jumping.

Personally I haven't seen a big outcry for them yet, I think they are just pre-emptively whining.
Of course the SEC doesn't like it. If they are forced to play a conf only schedule how will the pad their Ws and look like an amazing conf. They will be forced to actually play a full season against other p5 opponents.

Question for you, if you dread going back to LA why not find something closer?
I've applied every where around Omaha and Lincoln but as a teacher with 20 years of experience salary wise it's tougher to get hired for a spot when they can take a recent college grad and slot them in at a entry level salary. I probably make in LA what some admin make here. Obviously the cost of living balances that immediately. Plan now is to teach another 10 and retire back in Nebraska

I know we have our differences in some areas but good luck to you and keep safe

sweden has the highest deaths per capita in the world

it was about giving out money hoping people would spend it more than anything else. although i will say what a terrible job they did of doing that

LOL. football is canceled because a bit of danger? there are a lot of professional athletes who dont want to play. i think if the participants are concerned about their well being then we should probably consider the danger legitimate. unfortunately no one lives in a vacuum. when one person gets infected they usually infect a couple others. statistically if this happens 2-3 times someone will end up in the hospital. i dont think anyone who dies or ends up in the hospital for a week or two would call that a small inconvenience. its just a game vs peoples lives

I know that. I'm just pointing out the irony of someone calling Biden a socialist when Trump and the Republican Senate made it rain money. And Trump wants bigger checks. Just keeping things "fair and balanced" around here.

Imagine if we had mature leadership at the top. It could have been mitigated months ago without the economic damage... maybe November will bring some hope...

Maybe if dumbasses weren’t out protesting a criminal’s murder, our infection rate wouldn’t be so high.

The point of the stimulus was for you to go out and spend said money at local establishments. It’s capitalism at work to jumpstart the economy. Tell
me, was money taken from one class and given to you? Not it wasn’t, so how is that socialism?

Please explain. Wondering what could have been done differently at federal level.

That's just right now. The other countries are going to catch up eventually. The biggest difference will be that they won't have millions of people without jobs
Sweden's neighbors have a way lower death rate. If you really think they're going to catch up, then you should contact those countries and tell them to get busy.

And Sweden's deaths per million people rate (544) is way above the US (407), Canada (232), Denmark (105), Norway (46), Finland (59), and Iceland (29).
We'll likely get to that level by the time this over. Flattening the curve doesn't necessarily mean lowering the total number of deaths. The only thing that could prevent us reaching a similar national death per million number is if we get a vaccine rolled out before that happens. Susceptible people are going to die if they get it whether it's tomorrow or 2 months from now. It's basic epidemiology. Not saying Sweden is right in what they did. I was hoping that we could dispose of even more of the red tape in getting vaccine rolled out so we could be vaccinating people already. That COULD have happened. We should be doing HUGE "trials" right now in at risk humans instead of pissing around with 50 or 100 people at a time. I guarantee you that China has massive vaccination going on already in their military and others.

You think taking money that everyone will have to pay for and distributing it to a certain group of people is capitalism? Sounds good to me. My sister made too much to qualify for a check. I got one. We'll both end paying for it. So I would expect you would support Biden doing the same thing next spring, if its "needed"?

Right now currently my niece, nephew, sister in law, brother in law, mother in law, father in law and grandmother in law (who is 95) all have it. All have said it sucks but is no worse than influenza A. It is hitting grandma the hardest, but she is able to manage at home so far with the help of my mother and father in law (who yes are able to still help her even though they have it too) Bottom line this isn't as devastating and deadly as the media wants you to believe. 99% of people will be fine. Yes people will die. People will and can die thousands of ways and Im guessing many of those ways have better odds than dying from Covid. There are approx 6 million car accidents every year. with 40,000 deaths If the media focused on every single car crash, put up charts and numbers whenever there was a car crash or a death, focused all media coverage on it they could make is seem like driving a car is very dangerous and deadly too. Its all a matter of perception.

Yes I would support another stimulus package. I hope you spent yours as I didn’t get one. Keep in mind you are just getting back some of your OWN tax dollars. Biden’s tax increases is my concern. Why you think government spends your money better than you is a policy I will never understand, but to each their own.

I'll give you your "cool story bro" for that and suggest you take Dr Rupp to lunch and tell him he has nothing to worry about. Then we can have our football back.

Really,I have friend whose Grandfather died from it and another friend who is currently recovering from it,he said he has never felt so bad, hard to breathe and every muscle and joint is painful.Talk to the families of the 500+ who died last week in Florida and ask them what they think.I am listening to the experts,I.E.,CDC and Fauci not some orange assclown.

Corona is no less dangerous than the flu. Fauxi and others (WHO, Dems, media, institutions) were caught being involved with China to destroy the world economy so CCP can take over. They'll keep taking freedoms away from us until we're under communist control. Funny thing is most are on board and fighting those who wish to keep our freedoms. Most people don't realize how much power China has and they are projected to overtake us as the #1 economy as soon as this year. Thucydides trap will have us in a war with China.

Unfortunately Texas, Florida and much of the south/southwest are learning the hard way that freedom isn't free
